Would the EU ever trust us and want us back???

There is one article (quoted by the OP early on) on the CNN Business page. The remarks about UK untrustworthiness are primarily from the two British people she quotes.

I think the EU will eventually implode. Countries like Poland Hungary etc don't like being told what to do and will go.
I also believe the UK will be fine.
BTW.. I voted to stay in.. But respect the UK results.

I would like a link to CNN story as I have just looked at three of their sites including the international one and can find no evidence of the OP’s story?

PippaZ I object to the ridiculous rules and regulations which occurred before we left the EU and now continue with the sandwich incidence. It is tied up with bureaucratic red tape and as Honore de Belzac said “ bureaucracies are giant mechanisms operated by pygmies”.

As had been said before, if you want independence, best make sure you don't sell all or parts of your major needs and utilities to those you alienate- especially when an Island, or when sandwiched in the middle, like Switzerland.

I do think Keir Starmer would fight to take us back into the Single Market (and that means, free movement - which would help with HGV drivers, agriculture, building, NHS, care, etc) - and fight for a Norway Style option.

I don’t have a link but have seen and listened to CNN which is broadcast throughout the world, so I can verify that the OP is correct.

Fair point PippaZ but, as OP said many headlines around the world have been saying this week but hasn't yet responded to requests for links to that, it seems that this is, yet another, dog-whistle OP. Are there any links for this so that those of us who have searched, but cannot find anything, can read up on it?

This does not answer the OPs question. I think we have heard quite enough from pro-leave voters, especially now we can see what our government has done to the country. No ifs, no "other" as a whipping boy, this government has completely deminished our county via, in the first instance, the lies about Brexit.

I don't think they would have us back as a full member of the EU, to be honest. Any agreement they come to with us will tie us up completely as they have no reason whatsoever to trust us. We have a government, run by a man who is not honourable, and this has translated into the world seeing us as a country without honour.

I hope you are not expecting the next government ( whoever they are) to take us back in Kali as you would be sorely disappointed.

Trust doesn’t come into it, as a previous poster has said (*Nanna8*?) no country trusts another without a watertight treaty ( they would be crazy to do otherwise.)
Trust is for friends, lovers and families.

Yes please; I've searched too and can only find COVID, the Olympics, flood damage repairs immigration strategies and climate change. The only reference to UK affairs that I found was how "pinging" is causing the NHS "headaches". Links to the OP would be most appreciated.

I am surprised that you are so sure ... honestly.

Independence and freedom are very complicated concepts, for sure.

As we have seen with the Covid pandemic and vaccination.

Our world has changed so much and we are all inter-dependent- be it industry, agriculture, fishing, energy, medicines and research in every field, workers, imports and exports and routes (especially when an island. Remember the limits of Raab's geography education)- and so much more.

But if you are going to be 'free and independent' whatever that really means in this modern, inter-connected world- you need to be trusted, and for you words and promises to be seen and experienced as being honest and true.

What has happened since Johnson took over, has made the whole world question, or even be sure, that the UK cannot be a trusted partner. Very sad that the reality is, that all of us British are seen as part of this.

No country is fully independent as they are all part of a higher grouping, whether it be NATO, the UN, theEuropean Court of Human Rights etc. Most countries give up a bit of sovereignty.
I think the EU would welcome us back, but would probably wait for a PM more trustworthy than Johnson.
