In Manchester JRM was confronted by someone trained as a youth worker who lost his job due to cuts.

This made me weep to be honest. Youth work undervalued. People with disabilities undervalued too.

Deeply depressing.

ascertain that claimants are entitled to the hand-outs. Did you mean to be so rude, condescending and offensive JE or was it accidental? .

Hand outs? Maybe Jane Judge would like to give her opinion on that, or Lemongrove's DD? You should be ashamed of yourself

Gabrielle56- i suggest you stop berating folk for 'pretending' they 'don't know how to turn sound on' and 'should learn quick' - WTH??? I cant get the sound on either,on that video- and its nothing to do with 'unmuting it' or 'turning the sound up' - ive just done that- it still did NOT work- i dont know if its because i dont have twitter or not? But ive no intention of getting twitter just for that- and NO, im not a tory either.I just cant hear the sound function , but it does display some of whats said i think.

Can you imagine how miserable you must be resenting the most vulnerable in our society?

Nannan2, when you go on twitter in the corner of video screen there is a speaker symbol which you have to click on to unmute. Could it be that?

Here's one that isn't on twitter and has subtitles.

I understand his frustration but had to turn it off because I have a higtened sensory awareness condition which makes it impossible to listen to. Having a disability doesn't excuse rudeness. Every time JRM opened his mouth to attempt a reply he was cut off by more shouting from the complainant.

Oh look at him 'sympathy gathering' hmm I don't think people even think about the implications of the language they used. People went mad about the word 'scum' but condescending language to describe people with disabilities is fine.

You beat me to it. The language used says it all.

You see, here we are…. “hideous Rees Mogg” someone said, and there have been other really horrible comments about him.

What on earth has he done to elicit such vitriol from, presumably those on the Left?
Is it because he is well educated, speaks well and is comfortably off? Oh and of course he’s a Tory MP so clearly that makes him fair game, but the language some of you on here have used, goes beyond all that.

Yes I accept he’s a bit eccentric, an almost throwback to an earlier time, but he doesn’t deserve such hate-filled comments.

Another misconception about Tory MPs was made when someone claimed that none of them knew what it was like to have a disabled family member.
What about David Cameron and his severely handicapped son who sadly died a few years ago?
He spoke at length about the endless hours they spent in A and E while their poor child had another set back.

Alegrias1 Wed 06-Oct-21 12:47:35

Is it because he is well educated, speaks well and is comfortably off?

No, its because he's a selfish git.

JaneJudge Wed 06-Oct-21 12:49:29

The Cameron's received round the clock nursing care which was funded by the taxpayer also. They must understand the emotional impact of having a child with a disability but their experience of the domestic side of caring for him will have been wildly different to most people's experience.

HannahLoisLuke Wed 06-Oct-21 12:52:16

I’ve just watched it and I thought JRM showed great patience as this poor man shouted over and over about his degree and that the Torys had stolen his job. JRM got it wrong about PIP it’s true but it’s not just the conservatives who have cut funding for these kind of jobs. It’s been going under Labour too.
Very sad for those affected.

No, its because he's a selfish git.

Exactly. Nothing to do with his education or speech, sorry. I’m rather well spoken myself as it happens.

JaneJudge Wed 06-Oct-21 12:54:28

David Cameron also promised as one of his pledges before he was PM not to limit the amount of continence pads provided to children with disabilities with continence problems. He had no idea they were limited. It never happened. They are still limited to 1 at night and 2 or 3 during the day depending on your local health authority.

Nannan2 Wed 06-Oct-21 12:59:05

Deedaa-Its not enough because the tories would rather keep the cash in their coffers, for themselves.Like the money they shelled out for that stupid new room for when they do the coronavirus updates on tv- then promptly stopped doing them.what a waste of money.

Jacob Rees Mogg is my MP and as a constituency MP he does a good job. Prior to that Dan Norris was our Labour MP and he too did a good job. Those who make derogatory remarks about Jacob - have you actually met him?

I have relatives who live in his constituency and they say the same.

It would be interesting to know if he has followed this up and I would be surprised if he hasn't.

GillT57 Wed 06-Oct-21 13:14:28

No, JenniferEccles that won't do. I did not make any comments about JRM, about him being a Tory, I made a point about you being condescending and offensive. Why would you assume that some of us have a problem with JRM being well educated and well spoken? I am, and it doesn't make me an unfeeling, pompous arse.

Nannan2 Wed 06-Oct-21 13:20:00

My elder son was also very prem, diagnosed with CP at birth, but hospital never bothered telling me this till he was 5 yrs old! By then, though it was a struggle, id patiently helped him to feed himself, and dress after a fashion, (but he couldnt read, write or anything till he was 8/9 ) but he got no DLA allowed either, because of being able to do so.He never got anything all his life, till 16, we applied for PIP, then had to go to appeal court, before they awarded him anything at 17.Even though he was born with it, and it will never 'heal' or 'get better'. What are these assessors and DWP departments thinking?! And if they asked him to undress at any assessment he would just freak out.

Does JRM live in the real world? I wonder!

Everyone's real world differs

My real world may have many problems but they're not the same as those of Mr Hutchins, Mr Rees-Mogg or indeed any other Gransnetter,

Nannan2 Wed 06-Oct-21 13:25:10
