Apparently she was taken in yesterday with gastroenteritis. I do hope she's ok. I'm not a fanatical royalist but have a soft spot for the Queen and she's had a ghastly few years recently.

Sensible decision AND ecological as well. No plane, no security or accommodation for household and self.

I don’t think she’s ill. She’s old. Can anyone remember what her mother was up to at a similar age?

maddyone Tue 26-Oct-21 18:21:18

I just saw that on BBC news a few minutes ago.

Josianne Tue 26-Oct-21 18:14:14

Apparently the Queen will not be going to the Cop26 summit in Glasgow but she will send a recorded message.
I wonder, if like me on a few occasions, she is silently saying she never really wanted to go anyway?
I hope she recovers from her illness.

I think it comes under the rule of unintended consequences, Anniebach
?

Anniebach Sun 24-Oct-21 16:30:29

Harry doing something for the greater good of others doesn’t
ring true does it ?

It is for her to decide if she has done her duty or wishes to continue to do her duty.

You know Charles wants to be king ?

Do you know he doesn’t ?

Callistemon Sun 24-Oct-21 13:56:15

Josianne

Apparently not.

Harry
"Is there any one of the Royal Family who wants to be king or queen? I don't think so.
We do it for the greater good of the people".

I'm not laughing at you posting that Josianne but it's rather ironic that those were Harry's words.

Although, of course, him emigrating to the States is for the good of the people as we don't have to pay out for him any more!

I still feel it would have been both kind and sensible to stand down in favour of Charles.

Me too Lucca. She’s done her duty, I think she displays a certain kind of arrogance actually, but I know many people don’t feel that.

Lucca Sun 24-Oct-21 13:01:58

What would she do ? She’s 95! How can you say it would be harder than causing her own father to reluctantly become King ?
Walk behind Charles ? When ? And why not anyway. It’s not the Middle Ages.

Anniebach Sun 24-Oct-21 12:45:44

Abdication is Abdication, it would be more difficult for the Queen and Charles than it was when her uncle abdicated.

He lived in France, didn’t attend any royal functions or weddings .

If Charles was king what would the Queen do ? Walk behind Charles

Whether you like or loathe the Royal Family, the Queen has shown a dedication to duty that some of the younger members would do well to emulate. She is 95 and recently widowed and if that wasn't enough to be going on with she has the stress of Andrew and Harry to contend with. She is not just our Queen but a Mum and Granny too. I feel for her and respect her for the wonderful job she has done for our country.

Fair enough devotion to duty if you like but I struggle to think of her as a “mum”. I also think she looks much cheerier since Philip died, for whatever reason.
I still feel it would have been both kind and sensible to stand down in favour of Charles.
(I don’t think you can compare that to her uncle’s abdication)

OK Callistemon, give me a clue!

The palace has announced - all future engagements taken by
the Queen she will be accompanied by a member of her family.

Do you suppose one of them will beAndrew????

Easily found, Aspen

Anniebach Sun 24-Oct-21 11:27:14

Franbern why is compassion restricted for you ?

I read your concerns about your friend and immediately felt
compassion for her .

Why does compassion need to be restricted to lack of wealth?

But to 'love' a total stranger, someone you only know anything about via media propoganda.
Almost on a par with those whose' hate' someone, because of their job or what their skin colour is, or what they wear.

I have far more concern at present for a long-standing friend of mine in her late 70's, severely disabled, lost her life soul partner early on to Covid - and is now finding it so difficult due to lack of numbers of carers is being left in her bed often for 13 or 14 more hours.
I really cannot find in me any real concern for this very spoilt, incredibly well =looked after old woman.

vegansrock

I agree with Grany but you’ll find the forelock tuggers cling to the idea that the RF are wonderful and hard working etc when they actually do very little that isn’t orchestrated for them. I don’t have any personal feelings about them as people, the Queen’s main claim to wonderfulness is existing for so long, which she’s managed to do. Their main function is to pose for photos for us to gawp at, which they do ok .

I'm no forelock tigger vegansrock, but I object to a political pressure group using Gransnet as a platform for its propaganda.

You yourself state your views on veganism but I respect the way you do that because I can see that they are your views and you are not a representative of any political pressure group using Gransnet.

I'm a pragmatic Royalist, I like stability and continuity, but if the RF don't want to continue with the burden of the role of Head of State any more or a referendum was in favour of becoming a republic then fair enough.

As I said before these are my own views on Gransnetter. I am not as you say a political pressure group using Gransnet as platform for propaganda

I respect Republic they present facts very well researched and presented.

If you want propaganda there are lots written about RF that is propaganda.

Sarnia, I don't like or loathe - just can't take any interest and I'm bemused by those who do. 'Dedication to duty'? Being born into that family can't automatically impose duty on anyone, surely?
