Paul Dacre left as editor of the DM, I think a couple of years ago, maybe a bit longer, not sure. He was pro-Brexit.
Since then, the new editor is not a Brexit supporter but I don’t think he ruffles too many feathers as he knows his demographic and won’t want to alienate his readers!

The Guardian supported slavery, many in the past can be associated with evil things. Doesn’t mean they support it now.

If you buy a paper that supports certain views NOW, it it most likely that you support those views NOW. Look at the headlines of the DM over the last few years, and see.

The MoS isn’t as right leaning as The DM, and it was not pro Brexit.

The current editor of the Daily Mail, Geordie Greig, used to be editor of the Mail on Sunday and supported remaining in the EU. That might explain the DM's change of view.

The current editor of the Daily Mail, Geordie Greig, was the editor of the far more centrist, anti Brexit, Mail on Sunday. He was appointed to the DM a couple of years ago IIRC.

Clearly he isn't gong to radically change a winning formula but he can steer it in a more 'liberal' direction.

I don't LLFL, but they do have access to No 10 in a way others don't. It came up in one of this mornings political talk shows; I decided to have a look.

I think they will lose power as they have done the job Wonky Johnson needed them to do. Not all power but much of it as they become less needed as attack-dogs.

We can all recognise that now is the time to go forward. This will, as Keir Starmer pointed out on Marr, mean never-ending negotiations. We will have to learn to do it in a less chauvinistic manner. We will need to understand that we are working with neighbours. Shouting at them and doing the state-like equivalent of blocking their drive wasn't ever going to have a good outcome.

In other areas, and in dealing with the EU, the extreme right have their claws so well and truly into the Tory party. That makes it right not to turn our backs to them. The "Spartans" may lose some power. However, that may make them more determined to swing the party and the country to the right.

Shouting at people and trying to block their drive, is something the EU seem to be very good at doing at present, trying to annexe NI to protect their protectionism. Not a good sign of neighbourliness.

I'm not sure about Brexit being 'over'.

Despite the dragging out of leaving by the so-called Brexiteers Maizie, I believe it is done. We now have to make some sense of it. Sadly that may take decades - if it is ever accomplished. I doubt that those who call themselves "Spartans" or those who side with them can ever do it.

I think we will begin to see that while, in the most sleazy fashion, Wonky Johnson did "get Brexit done", it currently doesn't work - especially for those who were promised so much. Getting the UK working is far more important. Brexit will become the warning fairy tale we will tell our children.

If you look at the headlines, day in, day out, of the Daily Mail NOWADAYS, not 50 or even 100 years ago- I don't think anyone can justify wanting to support it by reading it.

They're very anti Johnson, now, though. It's good that one of the RW media is taking a much more critical stance. Johnson has been carried by the media so far.

I'm not sure about Brexit being 'over'. Didn't prospective tory MPs have to swear allegiance Brexit Faith before being allowed to stand in 2019? Surely they will be interested in keeping the pot boiling? (If they aren't, it just shows what a load of lying chancers many tory MPs are)

Of course, Johnson loses most of his raison d'etre if Brexit is over. It'll be much easier to get rid of him then. People talk about how valuable his political 'skills' are for keeping his government going, but I think that last week, sewage and overt corruption, demonstrated a startling lack of political nous...

I read the headline entirely differently, that the DM is pleased that the days of the extreme rightwing awkward squad may be finished.

I buy and read The Daily Mail and have never voted Conservative.
I certainly don’t believe everything that I read in it.
I used to buy The Guardian too, but it is too expensive so swapped to The Times.
If there was a value for money, entertaining, left leaning paper I would certainly buy it.

And, ladyleftfieldlover, don't forget that the 1930s are almost 100 years ago!!

Lots of people read the Daily Mail so don't be so dismissive of your fellow human beings. Some of us read the Mail amongst lots of other things.
