Please tell your children/grandchildren if getting into a taxi/minicab take a pic of the driver and send to your Mum or family member. Keep safe.

And that keeps you safe ? You might just find it hard to get a taxi these days anyway

Josianne Thu 25-Nov-21 13:56:03

Might not the taxi driver take exception to this, even if he is genuine?

Maudi Thu 25-Nov-21 14:06:46

Perhaps or perhaps not. Just sharing from Facebook forum. They could overtly take pic of registration/car before they get in.

It would be a good idea anyway to text a family member that you have just got in taxi and are on your way home and what time approx you will arrive.

Galaxy Thu 25-Nov-21 14:51:56

And how will that stop you being assaulted.

Maudi Thu 25-Nov-21 15:03:21

Well they would be able to find who did it if you were. You don't have to follow this advice it is a free country just passing it on.

If it keeps one person safe it is advice well given.

Genuine question because I don't know. What are the odds on being assaulted by a taxi driver?

Josianne Thu 25-Nov-21 15:52:46

I'm not sure, but I always thought that if I booked myself a cab with say Addison Lee, then the driver is checked on the App. I would hope any deviation from the requested route or time delay should flash up a red flag. It is a worry because I believe assaults are on the increase.

I used to tell my daughter to check that it was actually the taxi she had ordered and to ring me to say she was on her way home so the drive could hear her.
I know this may not stop stop an attack but if the taxi failed to arrive I would ring the police and give the taxi firm and name the driver.

If you were one of the poor unfortunate girls living in West Yorkshire, then pretty high. the majority of grooming gangs drove taxis.

I have no problem with your post Maudi and appreciate it.

Any advice/tips offered to safeguard women even should many be already aware of, is welcome.

If the driver was going to attack he would probably take the phone if he saw you taking the picture.

I'm sorry that my request generated this very unhelpful response.

Now, does anyone have any statistical information to offer me?

The most recent info I can find is from 2018, referring to sexual assaults there were 294 in a year reported to the police, low prosecution rate, increase of 80 % from previous year.

As well as all the texting and taking photos it might be a good idea to instruct daughters and granddaughters how to really hurt an attacker.
