It was really the idea that we need to pay special attention to make sure we include the people with a UK background
Is that what you think should happen?

The opposite to what I said then

Calistemon Mon 06-Dec-21 22:30:24

I know indigenous Australians, Australians of European or Asian descent who love the RF and some who don't feel any link at all.

Calistemon Mon 06-Dec-21 22:28:01

I'm totally confused.
I don't know many Australians with British surnames but perhaps they are more common in places like Adelaide, Perth?

Alegrias1 Mon 06-Dec-21 22:23:06

It was really the idea that we need to pay special attention to make sure we include the people with a UK background, with respect to the constitutional future of Australia, when I was just thinking it's probably the indigenous people that probably have a prior claim.

How swerving the issue?

Two polls in one year with different results.

Surely the best of three might give more indication.

Anniebach Mon 06-Dec-21 21:00:14

Wait a year before posting again, mmmmmm

Alegrias1 Mon 06-Dec-21 20:49:44

They have to take part in the qualifying round next year.

Anniebach Mon 06-Dec-21 20:41:28

What will happen to a poster if they are given nil points ?

Alegrias1 Mon 06-Dec-21 19:49:33

10 points for swerving the issue.

Calistemon Mon 06-Dec-21 19:48:52

Maybe they could have chosen people with indigenous names?

I'll ask the ones I know.

Certainly a huge disparity in just a few months.

Perhaps the next one in a couple of months will be different again.

Alegrias1 Mon 06-Dec-21 19:41:01

Maybe they could have chosen people with indigenous names? You know, the ones who lived there for 50,000 years before we told them to b****r off?

Calistemon Mon 06-Dec-21 19:36:07

Alegrias1

I hear they have the internet in Australia now.

Not random then.

Let's pick people with non-British surnames who have no links go the auld country!

Lincslass Mon 06-Dec-21 19:13:54

Was really unsure as to why the Commonwealth exists, self interest maybe, on reading this was more aware. www.theafricareport.com/71058/the-commonwealth-why-does-it-exist-and-does-it-help-its-members/

Was this a postal poll as most people have been at home, some locked down, Grany.

^Australia, all have recently polled more for a republic than monarchy^

Really?

Unless there is a referendum then we d9nt really know.
Voting is compulsory in Australia too.

That was in a January almost a year ago. Calistemon

We will never become a republic while Queen Elizabeth II is still alive.

I hope she lives for many more years, at least as long as her mother did, to allow us time to decide what should happen next.

Grany Sun 05-Dec-21 18:02:20

'When Queen goes, let's become a republic and consign backbiting Windsors to history'
Brian Reade marks Barbados becoming a republic by musing that it's time for Great Britain to follow suit when the Queen passes away

I think if we are going to reclaim the proceeds of slavery it should go further than the RF.
