Cocaine use in House of Commons

When my husband worked for a transport company as an engineer responsible for planning maintenance he was subject to random drug testing. The decisions he made were considered to be ‘safety critical’ so the same criteria applied to everyone, not just the train drivers and the engineers on the ground.

And still managing to looking a complete and utter mess, even in the police gear and little more than his eyes showing!

Of course any industry that has safety at the forefront ( rail, transport generally and construction etc) will be very much invested in alcohol and drug testing, but not the general workforce, offices and so on and not even NHS as far as I know.

A company my husband worked for (he's an office based engineer) regularly drug tested the office staff.

I bet the alcohol content keeps the HoC drains very clean indeed. Never forget, it's one rule for them - and another for us - so any comparisons with 'workplaces' elsewhere are pointless.

Crime caused by drug use (apart from supply), a major problem, applies only to those who need to fund it, not those who can easily afford it.

So ministers lavatories? I suppose it is feasible that the cleaners use the lavatories as a cocaine station.

Especially as cocaine costs from £40 a line and they on average work an 18 hour week for £11 per hour - excluding breaks.

Just think how much cocaine their wage would buy!

Actually for £40 worth of cocaine, you get 5 to 7 lines, not just one.

I’ve been listening to the radio news and Nicky Campbell on 5 live had an excellent phone in on the govt proposals.
It’s made me review my position on legalising drugs and reflect on my use of cannabis over a fairly brief period when arthritic pain made sleep so difficult. I bought from a friend who grew a few plants not heavy skunk. I stopped as soon as the RA was effectively treated and had no desire to use it again. I didn’t use it in my young years, never used any drugs other than tobacco, caffeine and alcohol, and all those in moderation.

My conclusions - I wouldn’t support legalisation of any drug. I’d have staggered through using prescription pain killers, tho cocodamal has unpleasant side effects and is addictive (in my experience, weed wasnt)
I’d spend lots of tax payers money on child protection, therapy and services to support children and adults who experienced long term or significant trauma
I’m inclined to agree with the talk of making life more difficult for ‘middle class recreational drug users’. 12 year old county lines kids delivering their drugs - don’t make me sick
Repair the devastation to probation, children’s services. Drug/alcohol teams. Midwifer/health visiting.

He has said himself that is has been a cocaine user.

People fiddle with their nose for a whole number of reasons kali2, not necessarily because they've just snorted a line of coke. Don't get me wrong, I'm as appalled as anyone else that drugs have been found to be present in the Hoc, but I'd be hesitant to publicly accuse Gove of being a drug user, based on that video clip. He does look under the influence of something; could be alcohol, could be that he was ill but, as you've confirmed that you have no proof to support your statement, I'll dismiss it as gossip.

The Times reports Lindsay Hall is asking Police to investigate after 11 of 12 areas tested showed trace of cocaine. The sites included the toilets near the offices of Mr Johnson and Ms Patel

You would have thought the PM would have “en suite” facilities.
Workplace drug use is common from top to bottom, if BJ thinks he is going to solve the problem without draconian changes in liberty he is living in cloud cuckoo land.

He has admitted to taking drugs when he was a young journalist and I'll take a bet that many people in public office had done the same in their youth.
