Cobra meeting

At the practical level, any meeting without Boris is more likely to be productive than one with him. It also provides those who turn up with a chance to put the boot in in public statements afterwards.

It's a win win.

Look it was a Sunday. It would have interfered with 'Le Weekend'. Not as if there's anything much going on......

They ducked out. They are between a rock and a hard place. The devolved nations and scientists want more restrictions. The rebelling conservative MP’s don’t.

It is a complete abdication of responsibility for both the Prime Minister and the Chancellor to miss another vital Cobra meeting yesterday.

They are too busy looking over their shoulders at the Conservative party to provide the leadership our country needs.

No decision this morning as a result from cobra yesterday.

No surprise seeing Johnson wasn’t there.

Casdon Sun 19-Dec-21 22:52:14

Yes, I heard that on the BBC News tonight Paddyann54. Mark Drakeford was not mincing his words, and he’s not a man who shows his anger readily. It’s so disrespectful of Johnson to treat the FMs like they don’t matter, and it will be yet another legacy problem for his successor.

paddyann54 Sun 19-Dec-21 22:32:33

Casdon dont believe all you read,The "doubling" is money the devolved nations were already due .As Drakeford said yesterday the UK 4 nations are equals but ENGLAND is more equal than the rest
.England doesn't have to go cap in hand to get its own money from the treasury it just prints some and then charges US a proportion as debt .Thats our black holes ,money they spent not us on our resticted budgets .Shame the people of England fall for the propoganda and think THEY are subsiding us ,whe in fact without us they'll be bankrupt

Hope they make their minds up soon, I have to amend my Ocado order before 11.30 tomorrow night!

Humbertbear Sun 19-Dec-21 22:15:46

Maybe it was just a party?

Whitewavemark2 Sun 19-Dec-21 22:08:11

The point is if they weren’t at the cobra meeting where were they?

Whitewavemark2 Sun 19-Dec-21 22:01:09

Wouldn’t Johnson have to agree it? As he wasn’t there the decision can’t be taken can it?

He also promised the right wing loons that he would let them debate and presumably vote on it. So that isn’t going to happen is it!

Casdon Sun 19-Dec-21 21:58:06

Yes, that was my understanding too. I really hope some decisions are forthcoming.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 19-Dec-21 21:54:33

Casdon

There’s nothing in the news at all that I can find. Did he agree that hospitality sector would receive furlough, that was one of the most important issues?

I can’t find anything.

I thought it was also supposed to coordinate further mitigating measures?

Gove attended.
The 3 devolved nations have had their Covid budgets doubled.

Do you mean the meeting with the First Ministers of the other UK nations that Johnson convened for this afternoon Whitewavemark2? I’ve been looking for details of the outcome, but nothing as yet.

Yes, but it is all over twitter that they did not attend.

Boris skips Cobra meeting as decision over Christmas restrictions goes unmade.

Apparently Steve Barclay chaired it.

Held today to discuss the crises.

Neither Johnson or Sunak attended.

Better things to do I suppose.
