My 'Oh dear' moment came yesterday when it was reported (with video clips) that he said that schools had to remain open (despite the fact that he is doing very little to try to stop the spread of covid in schools) and that we had to approach it with a 'Dunkirk spirit'.

Does he not realise that although the Dunkirk evacuation was an incredible effort it came at a huge cost in lives lost and was necessitated by government inefficiency and ,military defeat in the first place?

I though he was a good chap also. Who next ? They all seem to be at it.

I think all governments in the not too distant past have been corrupt, most, but not all, there to line their own pockets.

He is too quick with the 'look at me the successful immigrant thanks to the Tories' for my liking.

Sorry for hijacking the thread with my stupidity; but I listen to David Lammy every single week on LBC, and I was utterly convinced that his daughter had died.
Whenever I heard his show, I’d think ‘ah, poor David’.

FannyCornforth Mon 10-Jan-22 11:35:59

Oh Good Grief. I think that I’ve dreamt it now too…

Apologies Urms, both Phillips’ and Lammy’s daughters died.
How incredibly sad

FannyCornforth Mon 10-Jan-22 11:31:15

Urmstongran

Apologies. I got muddled in my head. It was the daughter of news presenter Trevor Phillips who sadly lost her battle with anorexia.

No, I think that you are thinking of David Lammy Urms

Which is exactly why large sums of money fall into laps if people who can influence. These companies/individuals do not hand out vast sums from the goodness of their hearts. We used to expect more from public figures. There seems to be no standards or indeed the ability to police any infringement.

Did I just dream that? ?

Urmstongran Mon 10-Jan-22 09:49:12

Me too. I warmed to him after reading an article about him when his daughter died last year.

Grannybags Mon 10-Jan-22 09:44:06

Oh no. I thought he was ok too.

I voted conservative, ( to my everlasting regret now), but I did think Nadhim Zahawi, was one of the more sensible ones from the old conservative mould. That is a pity, but I guess not unexpected given all the dodgy contracts going round, the expression ‘pigs at a trough’ comes to mind.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 10-Jan-22 09:19:38

Me too Fanny.

FannyCornforth Mon 10-Jan-22 08:58:03

Excuse the spelling mistake blush

FannyCornforth Mon 10-Jan-22 08:57:26

I always thought that Zadawi was one of the good guys (comparatively speaking).

Oh well, more fool me.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 10-Jan-22 08:45:28

The expenses system along with second jobs needs a total overhaul.

The majority of them have their entitled snouts in the trough.

Esspee Mon 10-Jan-22 07:41:26

There seems to be no limit to how low this corrupt government will descend.

Tory Minister Nadhim Zahawi has been arguing against a windfall tax on energy companies when he earned £1.3 million from an energy company whilst an MP, keeping that covered up by a loophole, is also the person who claimed £5,822 in expenses to heat the stables on his 32 acre estate. Can we sink much lower?
