So far, 2022 is not a good year to be an entitled white man!

Johnson, Prince Andrew, Djokavic are all having a bad start to their year. Whatever our opinions of any of them, and I am sure we vary, they have all considered themselves to be unfettered by the standards of behaviour, acceptance of legislation that the majority of us adhere to.

I think a lot depends on whose saying something as to whether it’s objected to, others say far more and expand on it and nothing is said.

Perhaps all who write comments about such matters, should add a few more descriptive words, ie
Mr/ Mrs So & So, Tall ,rather large skinny , red checked , blood shot eyes , wrinkled ,vertically challenged, In need of a dentist & a chiropodist, & some work immediately required to sort out some rather troublesome attributes & behaviours.

As do the tabloids

eg Mrs So and So is a grandmother and is standing in front of her £750,000 house in leafy Surrey.
It is judgmental, shouts privilege and we should therefore not feel sorry for her because she was burgled.

This is an interesting article which is worth reading.

Very interesting article, thanks for sharing.

I think that the OP should have referred to people, rather than white men

There is a very definite group of people who rule the roost, and in general have control over all our lives e.g. politicians, FTSE CEOs, judiciary, etc.

And it's a fair description to say 'entitled white men', because that's the demographic and a fact.

Nothing racist.

GillT57 Tue 18-Jan-22 14:06:03

Thanks Janeainsworth, and for the record, those who described my post, and therefore me, as racist, are wrong and to say so is deeply offensive. The men I listed are white, why is it racist to say so? There are plenty of things going on in this country to get worked up about, this is not one of them.

janeainsworth Tue 18-Jan-22 13:51:00

I don’t really understand the indignation about the use of the word ‘white’ in the OP.
I thought Gill was just referring to white privilege, and the fact that 3 men who have had a bad start to 2022 because of their common belief that they are somehow entitled to disregard the laws & rules which apply to everybody, don’t apply to them.
They’re all white.
What’s wrong with saying so? If they were all bald, would it be wrong to entitle the post ‘Not a good year for entitled bald men’?

I think that the OP should have referred to people, rather than white men. There are people of different races and sexes who, because they are rich and/or famous believe that they can behave with a certain amount of impunity. Another example is Bill Cosby.

Some of them do eventually get their comeuppance, such as Ghislaine Maxwell, some are still avoiding it, such as Philip Green. And then there are the men who call themselves incel
(involunary celibates) who think it is there right to have sex with the woman of their choice and who take umbrage when they are rejected.

Good post, Dinahmo very fair.

Yammy Just got out of my sick bed and wrote my post before reading yours. Great minds! I was going to mention OJ Simpson too.

Doodledog I'm sorry if my post appeared rude. That certainly wasn't my intention.

No problem. ?

Wow! This thread has taken an unpleasant turn.

What about" innocent until proven guilty", only one of the three men mentioned has been proven or thought to be guilty by the Australian Authorities which they were entitled to do.
We have to wait to see the outcome of the enquiries for the P.M. and what the American courts do for Prince Andrew.'
Before anyone jumps and gets nasty as quite a lot of posters on this thread are wont to do, I am not saying they are not guilty just we have to wait and see the authorities decisions.
Threads turned nasty yesterday when certain posters made comments and they are starting again today.
As for a black person getting away with things because of money and status OJ Simpson comes to mind and Bill Crosby.
We know of people with money or status and their misdemeanours because the press knows the public will be interested.

Kandinsky Tue 18-Jan-22 10:23:57

Maybe more people should report these threads as I’m sure they’re ‘not in the spirit’ of gransnet.

Pammie1 Tue 18-Jan-22 10:22:29

As far as the people named in the OP, I don’t think entitlement is anything to do with race - more to do with the privilege of wealth. If you have people fawning over you because you’re rich, your almost bound to believe that you should be allowed to do as you like and then, as in the case of Djokovic and Prince Andrew, have a public hissy fit when someone says ‘no you can’t.

Kandinsky Tue 18-Jan-22 10:22:26

The thread title would have been fine if the word ‘white’ hadn’t been added.
Plenty of rich black men behave appallingly - so do poor white men & men of all colours.
So do women.
The thread title was unnecessarily provocative.

TerriBull Tue 18-Jan-22 10:21:43

To add to Johnson and Prince Andy, white men not having a good year. It seems white working class boys haven't had good years for a long, long time now, as they languish ignored at the bottom of life's heap, a sort of English version of the Indian caste system "untouchables", that's not to suggest of course that other races have a privileged hierarchy because as we all know you have to be white to lord it over your fellow human being.

Pammie1 Tue 18-Jan-22 10:17:52

GrannyGravy13

The examples credited in the OP are just idiots.

It is possible to be an idiot whatever your colour, your gender, your political persuasions etc.

Entitled white man is just another sound bite designed to cause devision.

This.

When I read the original post I just thought of very rich men who have had a lot of advantages in life. Race didn’t enter into it at all. Why are some so totally obsessed with it ? We are all human beings.

The OP states entitled white man

Race was mentioned at the get go.
