So far, 2022 is not a good year to be an entitled white man!

Johnson, Prince Andrew, Djokavic are all having a bad start to their year. Whatever our opinions of any of them, and I am sure we vary, they have all considered themselves to be unfettered by the standards of behaviour, acceptance of legislation that the majority of us adhere to.

Your nephew's work colleague was rude.

Kate1949 Mon 17-Jan-22 22:59:49

Exactly Kamiso Rude and he's so lovely.

Doodledog Mon 17-Jan-22 22:58:01

That's true, too.

I'm not sure this is relevant but my lovely, kind, sensitive 35 year old nephew joined in a conversation at work recently and was told by a colleague 'As a white heterosexual male your opinion is irrelevant'.

The colleague sounds extremely rude and unpleasant. Not worth taking offense of such an unpleasant individual. If he/she didn’t want comments then he/she shouldn’t have spoken in front of him.

Well, I suppose if the conversation was about black gay women, it may well have been.

Nobody's opinion is relevant to every situation, and maybe he took the comment too personally?

Callistemon21 Mon 17-Jan-22 22:09:58

No.
Except -
Is this a thread about threads?

Alegrias1 Mon 17-Jan-22 22:07:37

I just can't think of anything to say. Best just move on I think.

So, entitled white men...any comments, anyone?

Callistemon21 Mon 17-Jan-22 22:06:53

I chose to

Annie I know you're feeling bruised, understandably, but my Mum used to say that two wrongs don't make a right.
Rise above it.

?

GillT57 Mon 17-Jan-22 22:02:32

Wow. Nasty.

Blossoming Mon 17-Jan-22 21:52:56

Someone’s feeling bilious.

Anniebach Mon 17-Jan-22 21:43:15

Lucca Mon 17-Jan-22 21:40:46

Yes really. Why do you say that ?

Anniebach Mon 17-Jan-22 21:38:59

Really?

Lucca Mon 17-Jan-22 21:35:35

You express sympathy for someone who has suffered a horrific
trauma, I am surprised

Why ? That’s not a nice thing to say to Alegrias

GillT57 Mon 17-Jan-22 21:28:28

Anniebach, as far as I am aware Andy Murray has had a good year so far, have you missed the point perhaps? The 3 examples I gave in the OP have found that not following the accepted rules and behaviour that society in general does has not worked out very well for them.

Wow! This thread has taken an unpleasant turn.

Why does race have to be dragged into everything.

Grandmagrim Mon 17-Jan-22 20:51:38

Funny isn’t it, if a man is born into a poor family it’s not his fault if he is born to a well off family he is fair game. I’m not a fan of any of the named individuals but the circumstances of their birth were beyond their control.

Sympathy? I see no sympathy....

Admiration. That's what I'd call it.

Is Andy Murray an entitled white man ?

No, he's not.

He's somebody who got where he is through hard work and probably remembers what it was like to hide under a desk in a Dunblane primary school.

He does, however, own a very posh hotel.

Pammie1 Mon 17-Jan-22 20:31:37

Given that posh, white men are right at the top of the social hierarchy and hold the most power and wealth, I the no it's time they were held to account.

I wouldn’t say Djokovic is particularly posh - OK he’s wealthy but I think the Australian authorities proved that he may be entitled, but he’s not particularly powerful - if he was he’d have got what he wanted.

Anniebach Mon 17-Jan-22 20:25:20

I dislike the word posh
