One of the 'more important issues' is the extensive funding of the tory party by Russian oligarchs, both in donations to the party and to individual MPs; the closeness of so many of the key 'Vote Leave' figures to Russia and the funding of Leave campaigns by Russian money, and the strange reluctance of the government to implement immediate and swingeing sanctions on Russian money in the UK. The EU and the US have acted promptly to impose sanctions on oligarchs, while the tory government has given a Russian bank 30 day's grace and sanctions on dirty money laundering won't be implemented for 18 months.

I am intrigued as to why the tory voters among us don't seem overly concerned about this. We're not hearing any concerns about Russian involvement in our government or the snails pace at which it is moving on sanctions...

If Russia - Putin - interfered in the vote to Leave, putting it simplistically, then Brexit is all part and parcel of what's happening.

Beyond doubt, a de-stabilised Europe is Putin's aim and Brexit played a part in that de-stabilisation. In that respect, it's still relevant, whether it's on people's minds or not.

Just think that it would really be a punch to Putin, if UK re-joined EU. Suppose, we would then have to put up with cheaper food, better human rights, ease of movements and living in many countries, halt to problems at NI border, etc. etc. - but I, for one, am willing to make these sacrifices.

Let's not forget that we have Putin to thank for Brexit

Significant but very sad that US Secretary of State Blinken crosses the Atlantic not to visit UK, but to meet with EU nations in Brussels. Brexit has sidelined us. Anyone with international experience knew that, when US looks transatlantic, their view is of Europe, not Britain.

Johnson refused to join in with any EU initiatives, even when it made things worse for the UK. merely for ideological reasons. The EU was supposed to be some evil organisation which all countries were desperate to escape from and we were leading the retreat as some beacon of sovereignty. Hasn't happened. Funny that Ukraine is fighting to be a sovereign country and wants to join the EU, something we were told was impossible. Still the lies are exposed evermore.

Wouldn’t have expected anything else, we are in extraordinarily dangerous times and all Countries have to work together.

Nobody is going to get fast tracked. The EU is very rules based. I read once it’s harder to join than to leave. Turkey applied in 1999.

Being reported that Georgia is fast forwarding it’s application to join EU.

It will only be Russia and us left soon?

Do you mean the imperial measurements? Yes, it's nonsense - pandering the over 66 year olds - anybody younger would have been brought up with metric.

I'm over 70 and I have absolutely no desire to return to imperial measures.

Mind you, people still use them in shops like butchers and greengrocers for quantities and most shop assistants manage to be 'bilingual' in imperial and metric weights. It's not difficult.

But utterly stupid to try to revert. They really are scraping the barrel for Brexit 'benefits, aren't they? How embarrassing the UK has become.

Exactly- but the main issue of course is not about individuals buying apples at the market, on brisket at the butcher's - but business/industrial production. Any multi-national supply chain has to use the same calibre and measurements- otherwise is just does not work. All industrial plants can't change all the calibration depending on whether the order is going to UK, or other parts of Europe.

In Ye Olde Days- you could have trains with different track widths- but as soon as travel became national and then international- it became impossible. Both metrication and Imperial have they pros and cons- but mixing the two is a disaster.

Do you remember the early days, when if you wanted to buy carpet it was advertised as price per square yard- but sold in 2, 3, or 4 metre widths, by the linear foot!!!

We are going to have enough trouble trading internationally in next few years without adding this nonsense to the mix.

I did O level maths and sciences in 1971 and used metric, so it's even longer than that.

Metric measures have never really taken off in this country. I remember a young carpenter who did some work at my house. He was far too young to have learnt imperial measures at school but still used them in his work because he had learnt from the men he worked alongside.

Yes, they have! Some things have never changed, but most young people don't think in feet and inches. I couldn't tell you my weight in stones and pounds.
