Wales to offer Covid jabs to children 5 to 11y. ???????

Parents having to stay at home to care for a poorly child is not a justification for vaccinating the whole population of 5-11 year olds against Covid when the majority have probably had it or been in contact with it already.

Very sadly, I believe about 6 children in that age group have died from Covid.
As I previously posted CV/CEV children should be offered the vaccine
I do not want to see families pushed into vaccinating their youngsters in order to go on holiday abroad.

I'd need more reason than that and I don't think parents should be made to feel guilty if they decide not to have their young children vaccinated.

sago I totally agree with regards testing for Covid antibodies, in children and young adults.

Growstuff Unfortunately it is very unlikely a child with the Factor V Leiden gene would ever be aware.
It is largely undiagnosed in the UK as routine testing does not cover this syndrome.
So sadly many children will be vaccinated and at risk.
I would advocate antibody testing for children but sadly I don’t think this is financially viable.

Omicron has been through the little primary school next door to us, no children were very poorly, the majority were asymptomatic. GC goes there and I have been friends with the Head Teacher for over 20 years, and know several of the teachers and TAs also, who have told me this.

As far as I understand all Covid vaccines have been granted emergency use licenses until the trials officially end in Spring 2023. The was confirmed by one of the more knowledgeable posters who unfortunately is no longer posting.

I can remember the epidemiologist and the Scottish Professor who are on BBC1 breakfast show Saturday mornings having a discussion on the pros and cons of vaccinating the under 12’s .

There were no specific pros, other than protecting the elderly and CEV, as those vaccinated are able to carry/infect others as well as contracting Covid themselves that pretty much negates the need to vaccinate all children to protect others.

As I previously posted CV/CEV children should be offered the vaccine, I do not want to see families pushed into vaccinating their youngsters in order to go on holiday abroad.

I do not wish my AC to feel obligated to have their children, (my grandchildren )vaccinated to protect me (I am CV) it is my responsibility to protect myself.

I think that now is the correct time to offer the vaccine to children. Many other children around the world have been safely vaccinated. The main worry it seems is that a very small number of children (and young people) have suffered the side effect of myocarditis, but the vast majority have recovered after treatment. Very sadly a tiny minority have died.

A tiny minority of 5-11 year olds have died from Covid too. Many more are suffering Long Covid and even more have missed school and have parents who have missed work to look after them.

Growstuff BUPA class the vaccine as experimental medicine therefore would not pay for my SIL to be treated under the terms of his contract with them.
Maybe it’s a get out clause but that was what they stated.

My SIL and daughter have children together,so the they have a high chance of carrying the gene.

The American hospital is in Wilmslow and London so my SIL has had treatments and consultations between the two.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I meant all young children. I can understand that parents of children who might have inherited a blood clotting disorder would be wary, but that's no reason for concern about the rest.

No, I haven't advocated for all children to be vaccinated. I have advocated for the parents/carers of all children to be given the choice.

Do you have any details of "over-vaccination"? I'm not sure there is any, but I'll read any reputable links you have.

I wonder if this is to do with travel to other countries. I believe entry requirements to some want proof that over 5's have been vaccinated.

Older children will have to be vaccinated before they can travel to certain countries so my older DGD will have to have the vaccine before they go later in the year even though she has had Covid.
I'm not sure if the younger one (under 11) will have the vaccine; she has also had Covid.

As Covid went round both schools I should think all their fellow pupils either had it or were in contact with it before they were vaccinated anyway.

Scotland just announced they will give to 5+ as well.

This should be a big NO.
My SIL ( healthy ex athlete ) had the jab and got two clots, 1 on each lung.
The NHS a cancelled all his follow up appointments due to Omicron so he accessed his private health cover, they wouldn’t treat him as he had been on the receiving end of experimental medicine.
In desperation he went to the American hospital in London/Cheshire they scanned,tested and did very thorough bloods.
He discovered this week he has a hereditary condition that means a huge susceptibility to embolisms and clots.
Their young children are very likely to carry this gene and will be tested in the near future.
The vaccination could kill a young child with this condition.

If it was my children Yes I would let them have it. It's smaller dose and give extra protection.
My little 5 Yr old Granddaughter has had so much Schooling cancelled. Since she started last September I don't think she had more than 8 weeks in class.
She's had Covid, which was like a cold she was fine, been a contact several times, then her class was shut down for a week.
Her pre - School never happened.

But all 5-11 year olds in England aren't being offered vaccination, only clinically vulnerable ones or where there is an immuno-suppressed person in the household.

She happened to speak to the GP last week, about child 2 and the subject turned to all children. His advice was that all young bodies are very different and unpredictable in how they react to both vaccines and viruses, but as omicron is less harmful in itself, having the virus probably now poses the lesser risk for any child.

But it's not true that the virus poses less of a risk to children than the vaccine. I'm afraid some GPs are misinformed, if that's the advice they're giving.
