Wales to offer Covid jabs to children 5 to 11y. ???????

Anecdotal evidence seems to suggest that the thousands of infant and junior school children who test positive for Covid go back to school after a few days with symptoms of a cold.

In Canada a smaller dose of the Pfizer vaccine became available last November for 5 -11 year old children. The uptake recorded a month ago was 44% in BC where my GC live. My GC age 5 and up have had 2 shots and are fine.

Pandemic and endemic aren't alternatives. They're something entirely different. For a start, endemic is an adjective.

I would not be happy with it, if I had small children. The long term effects of this vaccine are not known yet.

How long do you want to wait? Other countries have been vaccinating young children and there is solid data available. What we do know is how many children are being affected by long Covid.

8 year old grandson a Covid vaccination.
They are in England.

No. DD1 not allowing DGD or DGS to have if it comes in Scotland. Now things are being discovered about covid vaccines that were poo pooed at the start and studies being done eg. menstrual cycle changes. It's only in the last few years that Men B has been given to babies which can cause a high temp and paracetamol recommended for post vaccination and that was tested for over 5 years before being given the go ahead, the covid ones have not been tested on young children for long enough.

Please provide some proven sources if this. It looks like scaremongering.

No, they're not tiny percentages. Thousands of children are involved. If one of your grandchildren were to be affected, you might change your mind.

I would have accepted it fir my daughter is she was in this age group it is being offered to at risk children even in England. As a type 1 diabetic she is CV and I have seen what good old fashioned pneumonia can do to her at a very young age. She is now grown up so has obviously been vacinnated.
For a normal fit child I would be more retisant does the vacination protect agsinst long covid.
Especially now as the virus seems to be receeding and Omicron does appear much less dangerous than previous variants.
Having had two of my grandchildren contract it recently and not be in the slightest sick it makes you think.

How about dealing with the one we have - and its aftermath?

How do you work out that young children aren't at risk? Even now, 7.8% of cases are in children of nine and younger. That equates to thousands of children newly infected every day and we know that it's probably much higher than that because so many people aren't testing. A percentage of those children will develop long-term conditions.

I don’t know why I feel this way. Irrational perhaps. I’m all for MMR etc
Perhaps it’s because my perception of Covid is that the pandemic is waning and a jab for a healthy, not at risk child is perhaps unnecessary at this juncture.

But as mentioned up thread, it’s up to the parents concerned whether or not they want their children to have it.

The JCVI has finally recommended vaccinations for 5-11 year olds. The government is refusing to accept that recommendation for England. What happened to giving people a choice?

In my opinion provided there is a scientific basis for the offer, and parents have the choice rather than being told they must do it, there’s no issue. Under fives in other countries have already been included.

Jabs for children would not be offered unless the research had shown they were safe, so yes.

Let them be jabbed, in the same way as our young children and babies have been vaccinated with many other well tested vaccines.
