I too am devastated and shocked that this is happening. It's hard to be cheerful at the minute. Those poor people.
I Need Advice on Buying a Strimmer
How did you vote and why today
Seems like the measly sanctions haven’t frightened Putin, surprise surprise. What will be our circus of a government here’s response? We need to build bridges with the EU and have a combined response with the US.That would mean a different government here, I fear, as this lot have burnt too many bridges. Can’t wait to see Liz Truss in her fur hat issuing threats.

I am watching watching watching, reading and reading all on Ukraine and it is absolutely unbearable...... what can we do? Nothing, we sit at home, no fear, free to do as we choose and I for one feels absolutely guilty and so very sad that this is happening.
I send hugs and very best wishes to you and your family.

I’ve just watched video of a Ukrainian father saying goodbye to his children.
I am devastated. That’s one that I cannot watch, I left the room when it was on the news and I have steadfastly avoided it on Twitter.
It was on twitter and I sort of watched it by mistake as there was obviously no warning etc.
I don’t recommend it to anyone.
We as a family have weathered Kuwait (2nd invasion) Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan and numerous peace keeping missions along with things we haven’t been able to know about.
This time feels different, I am sooooo worried, not just for our armed forces, but for all mankind…

Aren’t those bridges known as NATO?

Corbyn is no quisling - he believes that ‘jaw, jaw, jaw is better than war, war, war’. I was horrified by the sabre-rattling in Parliament - it just racheted up the ante so there was no way Putin could step down without losing face. We all know that given free reign Putin would do his utmost to restore the Soviet Union, but how we pandered to him and his oligarchs because it suited us to do so. This is the consequence.
Everyone except a madman believes it is better to talk than go to war.
There is nothing special about Corbyn.
Whilst I agree that the British government has questions to answer over its treatment of dirty money, oligarchs and Putin’s friends, Putin had far more to take into account than britains behaviour.
Corbyn anti war stance is principled but in this case misguided because those being invaded will lose their human right to choose the type of society in which they wish to live.
Many will lose their life in defending that human right. We should support these folk every way we can.

My goodness the Ukraine soldiers are a brave. . Those on Snake Island!
If anyone isn’t aware - it is a tiny island in the Black Sea. 13 soldiers on the island were told by the Russian navy to surrender. The Ukrainians told the Russians to “fuck off”
Every single one of them were shot dead.
I have just seen the footage and sound recording on Alejandro Alvarez@aletwretsnews on Twitter
Brave brave men RIP

Russia testing the water: assassination of Alexander litvinenko London 2006/ invade Crimea 2014/Salisbury murders and poisoning 2018 ...and the reactions ? ....nothing much.....
Leap forward to 2019 stockpiling assets almost complete in UK property/ money all washed and put away/ military hardware serviced and ready to roll......the West? .... Trump still blundering about shooting his gob off/ Johnson a still swinging from trees acting the fool and stripping out defence budget so he can pay his mates for ghost contracts.....2022? Russia: invade Ukraine why not? What can possibly go wrong? The West?: Russia's invaded Ukraine! Blimey , er..... Let's stop Vlad's pocket money , that'll stop him.....why are we such idiots?!?!?
All the sanctions we have applied will take weeks to come into effect. This situation has been brewing for years. Why are we in the west or Ukraine shocked. Noted today on the lunchtime reports the Ukraine v Russia football games are going. ahead. This, whilst some in Ukraine plan on seeking asylum in the EU. Madness everywhere.
Does this give China an excuse to make a move into Taiwan?
Reuters are reporting that Taiwan has joined in with the condemnation of Russia.
(I think this will seriously irritate China.)
Taiwan is apparently one of the worlds biggest producers of semiconductors and Russia being unable to source these would have a serious effect on both its Army and manufacturing industry.
(Above all from Reuters.com)
Like everyone else I am thinking about Ukraine and praying that there will be some kind of solution, although it’s impossible to think what that could be. I’m also thinking about the two Ukrainian lads who stayed with us on a school exchange 30 years or so ago, and wondering what is happening to them. We lost touch unfortunately. Like our boys they must have their own young families.
It may very well be that sanctions will not work, but they have to be tried, as do any and all diplomatic means.
Would you really prefer the goverments of the UK, USA and the various countries of the EU plus NATO to have started World War III instead?
It remains to be seen whether Putin will realise that the sanctions against Russia will bring the country to its knees, or whether like Hitler he will not be deterred. But no-one tried sanctions against Hitler, did they?
I do remember that sanctions did not stop Apartheid in S. Africa either, but we may be luckier this time round.
And forgive me from pointing out, that by the time Hitler marched into Poland it was already too late. He should have been stopped when he marched into Austria.

I've read about the brave demonstrating citizens of Russia to be charged with treason too.
Meanwhile some heart breaking pictures of young Ukrainian children sheltering in some sort of underground air raid shelter. Can't help thinking how dare this awful man tear their world apart
I saw that, small children in layers on shelves, tucking in their legs so they don't kick the child on the shelf below.
I've just had a rather worried young DGD asking me if we are going to be bombed and invaded - she had seen this on Newsround and heard other adults talking about it (not us or her parents). She may have seen this on tv.

Never thought I'd say it, but bring back Trump. Putin would never have done this of Trump hsd been around. Trump dealt very efficiently with N Korea and we haven't heard a peep from Kim whatever since.
You are joking, of course. Trump has been funded by Russian money for years. He's cheering Putin on.
A group of French National Gendarmerie Intervention Group have arrived to give extra protect to the French embassy in Kyiv.
I dont think sanctions will have much of an effect on Putin he has already planned something like this happeneing I am sure. He is a Dictator and nothing will stop him.
We will probably be affected more in the long run.
