Some German generals did try to stop Hitler but their plot was discovered and stopped.

I agree that it’s extremely difficult to unseat a tyrant but they eventually fall eg Mussolini hung from a lamppost and Hitler committing suicide.

It’s all extremely disturbing, even more so because of the climate crisis.

I’ve been heartened to see so many ordinary Brits shouting their support. Both Unison and Unite members at the docks in Kent and Cheshire are refusing to unload Russian oil and gas.

No, I do not think Putin will stop, either.

The problem is that if the Ukraine falls, whichever land Putin then tries to take, is a member of both NATO and the EU, so it make no difference at all whether he tries to take Poland or Rumainia next or the Baltic states.

Unless we are all prepared to watch Russia march into, say , Poland and do damn all about it, like last time, it will mean war if he fires one shot across the border of a member of NATO.

So, obviously the best solution is for someone to assasinate Putin, as I doubt even the best diplomat in the world can get him to listen.

He can protect himself against snipers and against honey traps of either sex (I have no idea what his preference is) but no-one in the world can protect themselves against an assassin who is prepared to die by getting close up to the target wearing a suicide vest.

And even an amoured car will go up on a bomb placed in its path.

The other option is that some of either the leading military officers in Russia, the politicians or the Russian Mafia confront him and force him to either kill himself or be killed.

I doubt he is as hard to kill as Rasputin was.

That’s honestly what I think. We can’t assume that he will be assassinated.

We have to make strategy on what we think he will do next. Now react but be proactive.

It is time we called the shots ahead of the curve.

When I say we I mean the west not the U.K. as we can’t rely on this government for anything - it is too weak.

I understand Idi Amin had several ‘doubles ‘. Wouldn’t be surprised if Putin does. What a hideous job to have.

In the absence of an assassination, I have the dread that Putin will not stop now until he is stopped.

If you want to know a lot more then look up Bill Browder, there is even stuff on youtube. He wrote a book called red notice which I ordered from amazon, was due to arrive soon. It explains the putin state of mind and how he came to and holds onto, power. I cancelled my order, it is a gripping book and also very chilling and tbh my psyche will not take any more. I need to re-build the bubble around myself

Back to the OP. Yes these invasions have only just started.

I go with the theory that Putin is addicted to some kind of anabolic steroid and that he is capable of anything. He is definitely full of aggression in a frenzied way, so I wouldn't put anything past him.
I think the plot to kill him will come from inside somewhere.

They haven’t covered themselves in glory in some covert operations.

I am clinging to the hope of an inside job, that one of his inner circle will see sense or be persuaded that it is in their interests to get rid of him. Many of the inner circle, and others have lived a very unsoviet life for the past 20 years or so, children educated overseas, yachts, vanity projects such as football clubs etc., and I cannot see any of them being keen on going back to 12 months a year in Russia, even if they can live a better life than the majority of Russians. Even if it was all to end this weekend with Putin assasinated, it will not be the same for anyone for a long long time as eyes have been opened, and skeletons popped out of closets. Although it is of little public interest compared to what Putin is doing to Ukraine, I feel that what has now become public knowledge about the Russian money running the Tory party and thus the UK government corruption has to be faced up to and dealt with. But, to return to the OP, I suspect Putin will be taken care of, like some John LeCarre cold war plot with MI5 and CIA people helping to sort it out, not untrustworthy politicians.

Its my biggest fear that he won’t stop. It feels so wrong that we can’t help the brave Ukrainians more but that will drag us into this crazy mans war. Some difficult decisions are being made every day.

And I am sad to say that I agree with those posters who see his death as the only solution. I have never said that about anyone, but what else is there?

He must be totally insane to do what he is doing, and also to condemn himself to a life of hiding and protection - why would some choose such a life?

Getting rid of him would be a favour to the Russian people as well everyone else.

It is so hard to understand why people cluster round a man like Putin - in the same way as it was incomprehensible with Hitler. He can only dominate with cronies around him. Do they share his views or are they trying to make their own way up the hierarchy, which demands that they support him.

I worry that the misinformation being fed to the Russian people that they feel Europe is to blame and harsh sanction will turn the people against us and pro Putin.

Indeed the sniper can be a very long way away but he won’t risk it. As an ex KGB officer he knows better. Obviously in the unthinkable event of war breaking out with a NATO country he could be taken out with a drone if there was good intelligence as to his whereabouts.

I don’t know what will happen, but whatever it is will not be pleasant. I’m sure Ukraine will be taken despite the hard and heroic actions of its population. I fear for it’s brave President and also his family. Moldova and Georgia will then be next I think.

You don’t have to be close. A sniper with the right gun can be over 2 miles away.
The trouble is, he knows that ? so wouldn’t be leaving the Kremlin ( or any other building) unless it’s in an armour plated car.

Why hasn’t he been shot by now? A mad dog would be put to sleep. I hate to say this but I think Ukraine is lost along with all of its people. A Cold War will ensue for quite a long time. Just hope I am wrong.

This lunatic won’t stop now that he has a taste of ‘the conqueror’, also knowing the west can’t make a move against him in the air for fear of a nuclear war.

I dearly hope someone can get close enough to wipe him out with whatever method. This would take a very brave individual understanding, one life, to save millions of others.

Apparently some Russian Businessman is offering a bounty of £1M if they take him out.

I don’t think Putin will stop at Ukraine, next stop Poland. Just wish like everyone else a miracle could happen and he’s shot, he might prefer poison though, it’s his chosen method.

I'm thinking Ukraine will fall and we end up in another cold war with the iron curtain back up. But not a USSR as many former Soviet states in NATO or EU. Hopefully economjc sanctions continue, Russia goes back 30 years to a poor economic situation and the Russian people look to bring about change.
But still praying for peace!!!

I would think it advisable for people from any country which has come out against Putin to leave Russia. It’s not a safe place for them to be.
