I am surprised that McDonald's, KFC, Starbucks and Coca-Cola and PepsiCo are still open for business in Russia. Will you, or ask your grandchildren, stop buying from these outlets in the UK until they close?

OP is two years old, situation may have changed.

This is an old thread from 2022!

On the other hand, anything which puts people off Macdonalds, KFC, Starbucks, Coke/Pepsi and Nestlé can only be good. grin

I can’t remember the last time we ate in McDonalds or KFC, probably when DD was a child, decades ago!

As for soft drinks, I’m with Ronaldo on that score…at the last World Cup he pushed the cola bottles to one side at interview, scowling Drink Water!

We don’t buy fast food from any of those outlets but I do drink Pepsi/Coke occasionally. In fact I had glass of Coke at the pub this lunchtime.
I thought most western businesses had ceased trading in Russia.

I was in Russia soon after they opened their first McDonald’s The young people were so excited and one young lady told me I don’t eat the food but I love to go in to use the toilet I don’t think many shops had toilets in them in those days

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 15-Jul-24 19:04:52

I don’t use any of them but if someone else does it’s none of my business.

Sadly, I was tired and hungry on my way home, and drove by a KFC window, for spicy hot wings. Honestly, I didn’t think. My apologies …

Uniqlo, as of Friday, now out too!

HowVeryDareYou Thu 10-Mar-22 16:41:44

I don't buy from any of those places.

Someone mentioned that Pepsi Cola own Quaker products. Can I make it clear that real Quakers have never had any connection with Quaker Oats! About 1890 two American brothers launched a new breakfast cereal. They wanted to give it a name that stood for honesty and integrity. So they stole our name!

Other companies, including Starbucks and Coca-Cola have also suspended their trade in Russia:

It is the case of getting a message through that something is wrong to the people, for them to start asking questions.

Surely children in any country in the world could be better fed if their parents avoided fast food?

AreWeThereYet Tue 08-Mar-22 19:54:55

I don't use and fast food outlets so nothing I do or say has an effect.

I am however dithering a bit about the food outlets - many Russian children may well be reliant on fast food outlets, especially if food becomes more scarce, and I do not want starving children on my conscience. This is the same problem that the fast food chains have been fighting with in deciding what to do about their outlets. I have no problem with clothing stores or any other stores.

Hooray! Mac Donald’s closing in Russia. Now the young may ask why.

Being cynical, but the Russians won’t have much spare cash for eating out if the plans work out.

Pepper59 Tue 08-Mar-22 19:38:01

Don't really use them, but I do drink Coke Zero occasionally. No more though or, until they don't sell to Russia. I'm sure I can find another soft drink or indeed water.

I don't drink Coca-Cola but DH does, and he currently has several cans in the fridge. I shall certainly ask him not to buy any more. There are lots of other soft drinks he could buy.

Redhead56 Tue 08-Mar-22 08:49:51

Not places my family go to anyway and they don’t drink coke.
