Putin and International Women’s Day

I thought I was going to explode with rage maddyone; unbelievable.

And there was a youngish woman in St Petersburg who said she was behind him 100% as other women were being carted away nearby for protesting.

Sorry, but as soon as I see his ugly mug, I switch him off. Can’t understand why people are giving him airtime, or listening, to a murderous thug.

He certainly didn’t have any praise for the young mother holding her baby when they were roughly manhandled into a police van because she didn’t agree with him. ?

To be honest, I don’t think Putin has any respect for anything except himself. As Kalu has pointed out.

He does it because he is completely devoid of conscience, and completely cynical in the way he exploits the gullible.
Many in Russia do not have full access to news of events outside Russia, and how many in the West refuse to watch because it is 'too upsetting'?

I can’t bear the fact that we send reporters and cameramen to Ukraine so that we can sit in the comfort of our warm homes and watch the pain, the suffering, the devastation of lives.
I know that the west are using sanctions, donating funds and weapons, opening hearts and doors but last night I felt so desperate for the poor people of Ukraine I felt we should take our chances and send in the bombers, the pilots, the experts and put an end to this one way or another.
So what if that evil monster pushes the button and that’s it, do we really want to live in a world where we can sit and watch in horror as a nation is obliterated while we wait to see what happens next.
If the evil bastard intends to push the button, he’ll do it anyway.

That's not why we send them though is it LauraNorderr, they go so that they can report about what is actually happening.

The upsetting footage shown helps to encourage donations. No, I don't want "to live in a world where we can sit and watch in horror as a nation is obliterated" and I don't want him or any other power crazed lunatic to push the button either.

I do know that Smileless, I’m grateful to the media who are putting themselves at risk and I’m glad that the horror is shown around the civilised world so that we can respond.
My post was purely emotional as I feel such awful guilt at watching and waiting.
I am aware that we are desperately trying to avoid World War III but just feel hopeless and helpless. Last night my emotion got the better of me and I felt so strongly that we in the west should take our chances and nuke Moscow before he does it to us.

I do hope mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters in all countries rise up against this monstrous aggression so that International Womens Day means even more in years to come.

And what about all the people in Russia? With today's technology Putin would know a nuclear missile had been launched and was on its way and would still have time to push the button.

Not my recommendation Smileless, just getting a bit of emotion off my chest. Was trying to express the feelings that welled up in me last evening watching people trying to do their best in an impossible situation while I sat by seemingly powerless to help.

Don’t worry Laura I don’t think you’re disrupting the thread. I was left speechless last night after watching the news item where Putin was praising Russian womanhood. However his respect is totally false as he is lying to Russia’s women, telling them that Ukrainians are Nazis and fascists. Sadly many believe him, but as my husband said to me today as we watched the news bulletin again, all this footage will be available to disprove every lie that’s come out of his mouth.

Having seen the footage of the attack on the maternity hospital in Mariupol I haven’t got any words to describe my feelings about this awful tyrant.

I so wish the Russian people could see what's really happening. I truly can't understand the reports of Russian parents, especially mothers, saying they don't believe their adult children in Ukraine who are telling them it's not a 'liberation' but out and out attack ie war. I think we all feel helpless, angry and personally more than a little scared. We've donated but that's done little for my peace of mind. Every morning I dread what I'll wake up to. I can't begin to imagine what it's like for Ukrainians

If there is any way to put an end to this horrific war by Putin withdrawing his troops, then I am sure everyone would agree that it has to be done in a way where he isn’t seen to be losing face.

Repeatedly over the past week or so we have been told that it isn’t going as Putin had planned in that he wasn’t expecting the level of resistance from the Ukrainians.

I think we were told at the beginning that Putin’s main fear was that Ukraine would join NATO, meaning, in his eyes that the West was creeping ever closer.

Of course Ukraine is an independent country and if it wanted to apply to join NATO or the EU then it should be perfectly entitled to do so, but surely an assurance to Russia that it wouldn’t would be a price worth paying if it would end these atrocities?

I agree with you JenniferEccles and much as it annoys me that we may have to save Putin’s face in order to get peace, it may be the only way.
