Quite a significant swing to the Conservatives.
Not good news for Starmer sitting up there on his fence, no doubt pondering the question he finds so difficult to answer.

“Nicola Sturgeon has been accused of imposing a “cowardly” press blackout of Friday’s SNP local government election campaign launch to dodge scrutiny of her government’s “savage” cuts to council funding.

The First Minister will on Friday morning unveil her party’s campaign for the May 5 contest, promising to alleviate the cost of living crisis and urging voters to “send a message to Boris Johnson that Scotland has had enough of his incompetent, sleaze-ridden government”.

But unlike the other party leaders contesting the election, she refused to invite the press to the Glasgow event amid claims that her government is doing far too little to help households with spiralling bills.”

Not a good look is it?

Thanks for that. Very little reporting of this interesting result.

Yesterday 7th April 2022.

When was that Maudi because everything I look at shows a Labour council in that area?

Labour lose control of High Peak Council

I voted liberal many years ago, rather than Labour. The liberal candidates were my doctor, dentist and pharmacist. They lived locally, children at local schools. Sadly, the Labour candidate won, a very un-leassnt, dishonest character.
Our council is currently Tory run. I’ll vote Labour as the candidate is well known and respected.
I’m inclined to agree with German shepherds mum, in the local elections it’s best candidate rather than tribal loyalty. (Can’t imagine I’d vote Tory though?)

Germanshepherdsmum

Isn’t it better to vote for the candidate who will best serve your local community? That’s what I always do regardless of how I might vote in a general election.

I did vote for the Lib Dem candidate for the County Council last time and he has proved to be ineffectual and completely useless. He seemed unaware of and unconcerned about local issues or even how to answer questions or bother to seek answers.

The Lib Dem candidate for the GE was much more impressive but didn't win.

We have a Labour council and I think they do a good job so I will be voting Labour in the local elections.
However, I am not so sure about the next general election, I am not happy with Keir Starmer and am hoping that we might have a socialist candidate, which we have had in the past.

We are lucky enough to have had a Liberal or LibDem councilfor more than 35 years..

In spite of the way the government have cut back on Local Authority finances they have done a very good job.

The Lib Dems can't do much about financially struggling families from winning in local government, and the chances of them winning power in Westminster is zero. There only hope is to hold the balance of power, and look what happened last time!

Urmstongran Wed 06-Apr-22 19:31:43

Hmm. Will they though?

So many of us are disgusted with the corrupt incompetent Tory government and inadequate Tory councils.

In a month from now many of us will get the chance to send them a message.
