So many of us are disgusted with the corrupt incompetent Tory government and inadequate Tory councils.

In a month from now many of us will get the chance to send them a message.

Scotland will be voting on 5th May just like everyone else. For some reason NS is in many of the newspapers today. She seems to be centre stage at present. Never mind, it might be Wigan tomorrow. Or something interesting about Drakeford. I’ll take a ? tomorrow.

GillT57 Fri 08-Apr-22 21:56:15

Am I going mad? Was this thread about local elections or was it list as many inaccurate and sneering things about the SNP?

Urmstongran Fri 08-Apr-22 21:34:09

Earlier this evening I was listening to Sturgeon on the BBC news as she explained why people should vote SNP.

Can you guess the answer.

Was it (a) because of all the things I have done to make Scotland better or (b) to send a message to Boris Johnson about all the things he is doing wrong.

I am pretty sure you don't need me to tell you the answer.

Maudi Fri 08-Apr-22 21:17:47

No Labour gains in the by elections it seems so far.

Urmstongran Fri 08-Apr-22 20:35:57

I’m just interested in the whole of the United Kingdom paddyanne. Better together, in my opinion.

New car? Haha! We drive a 17y old Peugeot. Happy enough.
My dad used to say “3rd class driving is better than 1st class walking”.

paddyann54 Fri 08-Apr-22 20:25:28

So Varian what do you think of the leader of the Scottish branch of the LIB DEMS taking £200.000 from an OIl company to try to slow down the Green aganda here ? Dont worry though ,hes not alone ...Anas Sarwar took the same amount for Labour .
Shame really when we're doing so well with our renewable programme ..we dont need quislings backing the other side

paddyann54 Fri 08-Apr-22 20:22:53

Oh dear Urm on your high horse again...shame you only get your FACTS from the MSM .Aright wing tory media that hates the thought Scots are making different decisions than the rest of the UK.
Quite why it bothers you so much I have no idea BUT if your SF's family are so distraught about people being treated like HUMAN BEINGS..and getting help then I'd guess there a Tory element there,
Me? I pay the slightly higher tax ,and I am happy to do so when it means that funding is going to the people who need it and not tory donors or people who think a new car every year is hardship. If what happens here annoys you so much I'd avoid the enws or the biased media ...not good for your health

I’ve been looking for that. I saw it then couldn’t find it to post it later.

Well done!

Hull 802 is the Claymore. The other ferry is called the Glen Sannox.

I know how important it is to you that you get things right, Urmstongram

HTH.

Call them whatever - the locals (and taxpayers) are still waiting while the projects run over budget!

MerylStreep Fri 08-Apr-22 11:28:11

Callistemon
Much the same here. So much so that I sent him an email quoting Cromwell.
Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole nation etc etc.

Maudi Fri 08-Apr-22 11:03:29

Opposition parties accused the First Minister of hiding from scrutiny with a "media blackout".

Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Alex Cole-Hamilton said: "This is a remarkable display of both arrogance and cowardice from the First Minister.

“It feels more like the scrutiny dodging antics of Donald Trump than the actions of a leader at ease with her government’s record.

"Then again if I had spent five years cutting local authority budgets then perhaps I wouldn't want to face media scrutiny either.(copied from Yahoo news)

I've just checked to find out what our invisible LibDem councillor is actually doing as generally he doesn't seem to be aware of anything at all that is going on round here.

He provides lots of links to what other people are doing but doesn't seem proactive himself.
Nor can he answer any questions and neither does he bother to find out the answers.

I don't care who gets in next time as long as it's not him.

You can quote from whichever source you like JenniferEccles, just do your homework and check it with other sources to make sure it’s borne out by the facts before posting it on Gransnet or we sanctimonious and humourless types will be on your case.

Urmstongran Fri 08-Apr-22 10:45:29

True JE! I’m beyond the pale.

The biggest hypocritical statement I've heard for a long long time from Nicola Sturgeon- " send a message to Boris Johnson that Scotland has had enough of his incompetent, sleaze-ridden government”.

The most incompetent government in Western Europe (if you can call the SNP a government) is the one in Edinburgh. I can't think of any area that they have devolved responsibility for that has been a success apart from grievance mongering, disinformation/propaganda and wasting taxpayers money.

Hull 802 also known as Independence, which is rusting away in the Clyde, sums them up exactly.

JenniferEccles Fri 08-Apr-22 10:43:40

Quoting from the Telegraph is obviously not acceptable to a few on here Urms is it?!
And as for me, no doubt I am considered a deplorable for posting something I have read in the Mail ?

We should all know by now that the only newspaper worthy of quoting from is the sanctimonious, humourless Guardian!

Casdon Fri 08-Apr-22 10:40:24

I’ve been doing some digging. The Borough Council for High Peak was appointed on 6th May 2021 according to their own website. What Maudi has posted is the result of the by-election in one ward in High Peak. One ward, one councillor. That’s why it hasn’t been publicised.

Up here in the wilds of Bonnie Scotland, we have the Tories as the opposition. Every Party Political Broadcast, every time Ross is on TV, every time a Tory appears anywhere, the cry is Oh, SNP bad! Oh they want independence! Oh they never stop talking about it!

"What is your party going to do Dougie?"

Errr....well we won't be the SNP, that's for sure.

There's only one party that is a joke up here and it ain't the SNP. I wonder how all these despairing family members feel about the Tory PPB which featured the guy working so hard for Foodbanks. Foodbanks whose existence his party are responsible for? Not a good look, wee man...

JenniferEccles Fri 08-Apr-22 10:33:46

Talking of Ms. Sturgeon I see that Scotland has a higher covid infection rate than England despite mask wearing there still being compulsory in shops and other venues.

volver Fri 08-Apr-22 10:27:14

Source: The Telegraph this morning,

Not a good look is it?

Quoting from the Telegraph?

No, not a good look.

Urmstongran Fri 08-Apr-22 10:25:33

Re Sturgeon: She's a complete joke, but it's not funny if you live up there - my stepfather’s family despair! - all she has is criticism of the Tories, nothing positive to offer at all and to characterise local Council elections as a choice between “her and Boris Johnson” is ridiculous. These elections are about local services and competent management of Council budgets, that's all.

But a lot of people will fall for it, as always.

Casdon Fri 08-Apr-22 10:24:04

What has happened in High Peak Council to precipitate an election which is not on the same day as all the other local elections in the UK, I thought 5th May was a national Election Day?

Urmstongran Fri 08-Apr-22 10:23:05

Yes it’s tied him in knots hasn’t it JE?
Boris is on the money on that topic. The silent majority (not the shouty minority) agree with him!
