It’s dreadful to think that such schemes are needed but sadly they are.
The more it’s publicised, the more women can be helped.

There is also a scheme whereby a woman in danger can go into a pharmacy and ask for Angela.
It’s another code word indicating discrete help is needed.
Apparently a lot of pharmacy staff across the country have been trained to recognise this cry for help.

True. GMP have also been publicising the dial 999 for a pizza. The increase in domestic abuse linked to lockdown led to the initiative.
Some positive news out of horrors

They also have the “ask for Angela”in Wetherspoons ladies toilets…

When DD2 was pregnant and having a telephone consultation she was told just to answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to some questions about domestic abuse and how safe she felt. It’s a brilliant idea for those too scared to ask for help.

Upsetting to think how frightened that poor woman must have felt.

Apparently they have been using the pizza signal for quite a while in the USA. Excellent idea

I saw something very similar on youtube.
Well done to all involved.

Cool headed to think to do that.

Grannybags Thu 07-Apr-22 10:27:28

Impressive! What a good idea to pretend to phone for a pizza

Smileless2012 Thu 07-Apr-22 10:24:46

That's amazing.

I have just seen a discussion on This Morning regarding a woman who pretended to dial a pizza company but in fact dialled 999.

The operator through a list of questions that needed yes or no answers ascertained that the caller was in danger, dispatched a car and a man was arrested.

Our Emergency Services are marvellous.
