Will you vote Tory next time?

Just wondering if those who voted Conservative at the last General Election will do so next time? I ask the question in light of all the scandals associated with this Government, together with the lack of action taken to mitigate the effects of the ‘cost of living crisis’ (despite France, Spain and several other European countries giving much more help to their people), abandoning the Triple Lock (despite retaining it being in their manifesto).

At least we have got to the bottom of it. It means 'common and loud'
Chippy women then

I wouldn’t describe Mo Mowlem or Anne Widdicombe as gobby. Far from it. It isn’t having something useful to say and saying it that makes you gobby. Gobby = common and loud mouthed in my book.

Hmmm ... I have a feeling that kind of subjective interpretation wouldn't stand up in court.

Wasn't Mowlem famously potty mouthed and loud?

But she didn't wear cardigans. That's the important difference. ✔️

Here in Manchester there is a lot of anger towards Andy Burnham because of CAZ (Clean Air Zone). A lot of folk saying they will not vote Labour because of the mess it has caused here, but not sure they want the Tories either!
Would be interested in how other places are dealing with the CAZ.

Maybe a DAZ (Dirty Air Zone) candidate would win some votes. hmm

Maybe you have to be gobby to be a "successful" politician.
It seems to be what the media like (sells more papers etc) and this seems to be where most people get their information from.

Or have a good personal photographer for PR shots. Both Sunak and Truss have them.

Mo Mowlem was gobby too and so is Anne Widecombe and Ann off the chase

One thing is for sure in the coming local elections I shall vote for the best candidate, if they are standing again I will look at their last achievements.

I will not adopt the anyone but a Conservative mindset just to oust what could be a perfectly good and honest councillor just because they are sporting a blue rosette.

I didn't realise there are upcoming local elections in Essex. There aren't any here.

She was indeed. The sort of person that made her party a force to be reckoned with. Unlike today’s bunch.

Barbara Castle was awesome. If only we had the likes of her now......

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 14-Apr-22 13:10:53

No, Barbara Castle was not gobby.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 14-Apr-22 13:01:43

Anna Firth, Penny Mourdant, neither could be described as gobby

volver Thu 14-Apr-22 13:00:26

Barbara Castle could probably be described as gobby

I'm sure she had very nice cardigans too.

JaneJudge Thu 14-Apr-22 13:00:11

and she wears a cardigan
and I know she has a calculator as it was the only thing on her bookcase

JaneJudge Thu 14-Apr-22 12:59:42

nadine dorries is gobby though

Margaret Thatcher? Theresa May? Yvette Cooper? All successful and none of them gobby.

I’m a gobby woman and have been known on occasion to wear a cardigan. Doesn’t make my political opinion less valid. Why aren’t men described as “gobby” I wonder?

Same reason little boys are never described as bossy ! But little girls are.

I've always liked Yvette Cooper. Not one of the gobby brigade. Pity she can't be cloned.

I don't think the way I vote makes me anything Paddy, any more than household appliances do. I am who I am and I vote as I wish.

paddyann54 Thu 14-Apr-22 12:06:36

Maizie its because they think voting conservative makes them " A better class of person" ,heard from a woman I went to college with in the 80's who believed she was "middle class" because she had a washing machine and a fridge freezer ?
Its that simple and that stupid ,tory voters think tories work for them ....they dont they only work for the mega rich ,because then they get great cashflow,in their own pockets .As witnessed by this circus of clowns and robbers

I remember the days when Labour consisted of credible men in suits (Blair, Brown, Darling etc). Now my overriding impression is of gobby women in cardigans.

Rapidly coming to the conclusion that this is a parody account.

Never thought of Yvette Cooper in that way before although she does wear cardigans I think….confused

I have long said that the ballot paper should include a box for "none of the above" then at the declaration the total votes for "none of the above" would be registered. As it stands a 'spoilt' ballot paper can be for a number of reasons, not necessarily a register of discontent with the parties standing for election.

Completely agree.

nadateturbe Thu 14-Apr-22 11:00:59

That's very unfortunate Coastpath. I would have to do the same.
