What I think is wrong is that it will be possible for him to continue as an MP without the whip. He can become an independent as Rob Roberts did when he was proved to have sexually harassed a member of his constituency team. There should be a mechanism to remove MPs from office in these circumstances rather than waiting until the next election.

He finished as an MP why would the constituency still want him let alone the Tory Party.

I know, but it’s wrong that they can sit until the next election, there’s no mechanism to actually stop them being an MP other than the ballot box.

Constituents can ask for a recall petition and force a by-election if an MP has been suspended from the House for 10 days. but that needs a report from the Parliamentary Standards Committee, which, as Parliament is now prorogued, I presume isn't an option at the moment.

As for phones in the Chamber, they're all at it... all the time...

It's about time for a reminder that they are doing a job.
No phones, no sleeping, and all the same kinds of rules that apply to everyone else.

We really must be a bloody laughing stock.

And maybe we could save ourselves some taxes by lowering their heating as well.

IMO no one should be watching anything personal to them whilst they are supposed to be working.
I think that our MP’s are paid by us to work. Plenty of time to watch pornography/ or any other subject in their own time.

Yes!

They also receive subsidised food and drink plus ample expenses. In return they should be doing the job they are paid to do! BTW, I think that the time of subsidising the HOC should be ended. They earn enough to pay full wack for themselves.

And why not a “no using phones while in the chamber ” rule?

Most if them seem to be asleep anyway. It’s a joke. What seedy people watching porn. Wonder how many do it, it makes my skin creep.

Katie59 Fri 29-Apr-22 18:02:28

Didn’t take long to kick Parish out, indefensible.

He will get booted out if it’s true because websites visited are recorded, even if the phone memory was erased it would be recorded in either the router or the mobile providers memory.
There is no privacy when they have your phone number

Mollygo Wed 27-Apr-22 19:21:27

Maybe it will mean a greater focus on what any MP actually does while in the HoC.
We aren’t allowed to use our phones in work, so why should they be any different?

Beanutz2115 Wed 27-Apr-22 19:02:38

They should be named, shamed and booted out. MP's are supposed to set an example.

MissAdventure Wed 27-Apr-22 18:52:15

It's just a playground for them, doing whatever they like whenever they want to.
Get caught, just deny, ignore and most importantly, carry on.

I'm surprised any of them managed to stay awake long enough.

Me too Miss A. It's totally obvious most of them have no interest at all in doing their job.

I know which MP I’d like it to have been.
Watching anything on a phone at work is disgraceful. Watching porn makes it worse and doing it where you can be seen is an issue in itself.

MerylStreep Wed 27-Apr-22 18:15:10

It was revealed at that meeting that he had done the same at a select committee meeting.

?

On Wednesday, the Mirror reported a government frontbencher watched pornographic footage while sitting next to a female MP in the House of Commons.

The incident, corroborated by three separate sources, was revealed at a meeting of the 2022 group of around 40-50 Tory MPs, which includes Conservative party chair Oliver Dowden, and Commons leader Mark Spencer.
