No MissAdventure, it's not wrong. It's just there is a lot of ignorance around, sadly. And of course, the MSM plays to this and their readers repeat the propaganda lies back as if they are God-given truths.

I don't know why some are so focused on phones.
It's not even as if they're expensive these days.

My having a mobile has meant I have been able to earn a living for the last 4 ish years.

Perhaps we should go back to the days of queuing up to use phone boxes and putting in 4d to make a call as I had to when I was young.

Mobiles are essential now and landlines will be phased out before long. Communication these days is vital for many reasons.

I heard Anderson on The World Tonight a little while ago. He's really not the sharpest tool in the box, is he? Anyone who comes to "his" foodbank is obliged to sign up for a budgeting course and a cooking course. B*****y cheek of him.

I'm shocked and surprised at Lee Anderson. He was always well thought of and helpful when he represented the Ashfield district .Obviously since he went over to the Conservatives he has forgotten where he came from . Why aren't children taught to cook and budget at school.

Lots here from all walks of life have said they made cakes, and set out tea trays.

Because they have other things to learn.

Because most of them will forget what they've learnt by the time they need the skills.

With everything people expect to be taught in school, I'm surprised they have time for maths and English lessons. ?

A lot of what is said on these threads is pretty bad advice, in terms of budgeting.
In fact, frozen and tinned veg are better for you than shop bought stuff that is leaching out the vitamins each day.
A sack of potatoes isn't a good buy if you end up not eating them all - which is often the case.
Batch cooking is useless without the means to freeze what's cooked.
Not everybody has a car to bulk buy a big shop, wasting money o bus fares is false economy sometimes, when money is very tight.

Lentils rely on a decent stock of things to add to them, and as marvelously cheap as porridge is, sometimes there just isnt any milk or sweetener/sugar/fruit.

Budgeting isn't about buying the biggest stock of wonky veg.
It's about stretching what you have, what's available, what is good value and fairly nutritious, and being in inventive enough to make a passable meal out of it.

Lastly (thank god!)
If I followed the advice given on here I would need to go to a food bank next week.

As it is, I'm expecting to be able to last a month due to my stock cupboard and ability to use a bit of brain power.

In Crick's video, a lady accuses him of being a misogynist, which is why he was reprimanded by the Labour Party. Anderson accused the woman of being a member of Momentum, which wasn't true. Anna Soubry then complained to Brendon Lewis about his sexist "knockers" comment. Nice man!

Why are we are third in the obese table if according to some they hardly have any money to eat. I've never seen so many obese people young and old and I travel all over the UK and don't tell me they can only afford junk food.

Growstuff, you are so right! Schools are charged with focusing on Reading,Writing, Mathematics, and Science and Technology to the detriment of Art, Music, PE etc.
Then, every man, woman, and dog has a bee in their bonnet about what else is the responsibility of the schools: sex education, budgeting, cooking, sewing, makeup (ok, I made that bit up)..

I obviously commented on this and was told it was because they came from poor families where the wage earner got the best food, the children next and the women lived on sugar sandwiches, bread margarine and sugar.

Things haven't changed much. The cheapests food is processed foods made from the cheapest ingredients made palatable with fat and sugar. Chips, chicken nuggets, burgers, and the like. Go and have a walk round a supermarket in a poorer area or where poorer people shop and have a look at what it sells.

Obesity can often be a sign of poverty.

I also came from a poor background (in rural Lincolnshire). Although we did not live in dire poverty, money was tight and I too was, as a child, sent out to play in the street clutching a 'sugar sandwich'.

My grandmother - with whom I lived - was overweight. She was an excellent cook, understood enough about nutrition to provide for the family, but always put herself last and would fill up on heavy-carb food. Fish, meat and veggies were saved for those in the family who were working and bringing in a wage...

What a negative view of people you have Maudi. As you can see from the responses, yes, obesity is often linked to poverty. If you travel all over the UK I expect you see more fat people in deprived areas than in wealthy suburbs.
