Seems that these two have met to discuss the report. No one saying what was in the agenda. So the report is impartial?

“ Leaving drinks” is not a work event - you wouldn’t get paid for going - it’s a social event however you spin it. The fact that his red box, unopened, lay on the floor whilst wine and crisps were on the table is rather telling. Giving a speech and making a toast surely equate to participating? At that time children couldn’t have birthday parties even when they were at school with the same children. These were the rules which this government enacted and they should have been the first to be seen to obey them.

The others must have stayed on.
To party and karaoke.
Which is why they’re getting fined.

Did the other also go to the Commons and lie about it?

I think the Met police need to answer a few questions about this November leaving do.

(The rules in London, at the time, were that there were to be no social events, of any kind, and any essential work meetings had to be socially distanced, and not involve any form of "partying".)

The Met fined one or two civil servants who were there, as it was, apparently, an illegal gathering.

Boris Johnson who instigated and arranged this gathering, was there, and yet didn't get fined, because (according to the Met), it wasn't an illegal gathering.

This cannot be both things - if it was illegal, Johnson should be fined.

If it wasn't illegal, the civil servants shouldn't have been fined..

On top of this, it now seems that Johnson and Steven Barclay, at the meeting with Sue Gray they said they didn't (and then it turned out they did) ask for, they made it clear they wanted her to drop the enquiry and forget about publishing a report.?

Afterwards, it was made clear to them that they would not get away with doing that.

Johnson, in Parliament, denied this gathering had happened, and he knew nothing about it, but now the photos have emerged with him there.

Ex-Met Deputy Assistant Commissioner Brian Paddick, Baron Paddick on LBC with Andrew Marr saying (iho) the Met did not investigate this as thoroughly as they should have for fear of upsetting No 10. The Met have stonewalled anyone asking for comment on the photos.

BBCNews 24 reviewing tomorrow’s newspapers report that Johnson with Chief of Staff Steve Barclay requested the meeting with Sue Gray to ask her not to publish the report because ‘the Met have already investigated”.

Sounds more like a whitewash every day.

The police saw suitcases of wine being taken into No 10. Must have seen who was coming and going: saw how inebriated some people must have been. Must have heard singing…..

Obviously the MET police think not.

And we all know how trustworthy the Met are. ?

It’s because he’s never thought that any laws apply to him.

“I think he honestly believes that it is churlish of us not to regard him as an exception, one who should be free of the network of obligation which binds everyone else.” Boris Johnson’s school report, Eton, 1982

So breaking the law for ten minutes is fine, but breaking it for longer is not?

I'll remember that if I decide to break the law. So long as I can get it over and done quickly, it'll be fine (allegedly). hmm

This was his place of work. He and his team, were indoors working long hours in close proximity saving our economy and purchasing vaccines. Having a drink during or after the day did no create any additional risk or impact anyone else.

And he has been proven innocent.

In law, people aren't proved innocent.

These people worked together. It was an end of day work event.
I bet offices up & down the country had similar ‘all the best’ groupings to say goodbye to work colleagues.
Maybe just with a coffee & a gift?
At the time some nurses were making Tic-Tok videos.
Some citizens were ‘illegally’ protesting on the streets.

And hopefully they came a safe distance apart and wore masks while they worked.

Did he though? Lie.
Or did he think that what he did at a work venue was within the rules? He only got one fine and that was when Carrie presented him with a cake on his 56th birthday. This photo? I bet he didn’t think he broke the guidelines.

Ignorance of the law has never been a valid defence.

KS was more about the hypocrisy. To be honest I’m fed up of beergate & partygate now. I wish we could move on.

Short concentration span or lack of concern about values?

That was the same night MayBee70. He was ‘interviewing’ the successor apparently, it wasn’t a party at all! Perhaps the person who could mime Dancing Queen best got the job.

MayBee70 Mon 23-May-22 21:40:52

Why did they think it was ok to stay on and karaoke? Maybe because the PM had been having ABBA parties in his flat?

Saving our economy?

That's going well.

Is this Stockholm Syndrome in action? Or is it for a bet?

Casdon Mon 23-May-22 21:21:34

You do know there’s more to come, don’t you Urmstongran? I still want to know why you think this was okay, but don’t think Starmer attending an after work takeaway meal when there was no lockdown in place is not.
