Child care

Ah .... so the government has been told that far too many children are needing to go into care and something must be done.

"The independent review on council-run children's services said struggling families needed earlier support before they reached crisis point."

They need "earlier support" - well who would have thought it? Tony Blair's government had worked it out by starting the Sure Start scheme, aimed at doing just that. And by finding LA Family Centres where struggling families learnt parenting skills. And what happened to all this valuable preventive work? - the Tories axed it all.

Its lead Josh MacAlister called for £2.6bn over five years and a windfall tax on big private children's homes."
Private children's homes ..... what can I say really? Profit should simply not come into it. This is about providing services (a word that the Tories simply do not seem to understand) to vulnerable children on behalf of a caring society.

They are reaping what they sowed - but why would they care? It is not their lives that are being wrecked - it is the rest of us that carry the burden.

‘Privatisation’ - when I first heard this word on the arrival of Mrs T in office in 1979, I thought it was just an ugly word. Turns out to have been among the most badly applied,, and most corrupting, policies ever.
