The announcements about who is going to get what help, and how it's going to be paid for, is being announced at 11am, to Parliament, and then Sunak will tour the media programmes.

I've linked to the DM as it's paywall free, but as every media source seem to be saying the same things, I imagine (as ever) it's been leaked to journalists.

And I will repeat my agreement with that. It's nonsense to suggest it wouldn't have happened without 'partygate'. No evidence whatsoever of that.

I have to go out.

But if you think that, you really haven't been paying attention.

What's happened to critical thought in this country?

There are still many people who do give a hoot GG13.

volver I suggest you Google Martin Lewis…

I know fine who Martin Lewis is.

In that case you know that he knows what he is talking about.

Yes, of course he does.

And I disagree with him about whether this is a dead cat.

Disagreeing is allowed, you know. Even if the other person is a national treasure.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 26-May-22 10:17:51

I will repeat my first post.

I really do not give a hoot what the reasons are for dealing with the cost of living crisis now, as long as it helps those who need it.

AGAA4 Thu 26-May-22 10:10:50

It is clear to me that this help is only being given to try to damp down the damage to them from the Sue Gray report.
I am glad it is finally being done but they have known for a long time that people are struggling and have been shamed into doing something about it.

I hope that all households aren't benefitted - as with the winter fuel payments. Some people don't need money, others are desperate. But I guess the admin required for sorting those in need from those not in need would be complicated and time consuming.

I think I agree with Martin Lewis.

Of course, it's been timed to save Johnson's sorry backside, as they've spent weeks telling us nothing will be done until the Autumn budget.

But, people do need help at the moment, so all to the good..

Reports suggest that all households will be helped, not just those on top up means tested benefits, so we'll have to wait and see.?

Just having a good grasp of money matters doesn't make him an authority on all things.

It is a dead cat story. Last week, Sunak said it would be silly to do something now, and literally, that the computer won't let him. This week - bread and circuses for all.

What's changed in a week? Oh yes. I remember

Tweet from Martin Lewis (financial expert)

I’m sure the timing isn’t coincidental, but you’re wrong to say this is a dead cat story

This is the central issue hitting millions of peoples physical and mental well-being. It is absolutely crucial help comes and soon. If Sue Gray report has hastened measures, then I’m grateful

I had a wonderful dream the other night - yes, really! - that the pension was raised to the level of inflation! Well, I have never known a dream to come true, so why start now?

Yes I do believe that volver. And I’m a cynical person.

Really?

Some days I feel I can put up opposing arguments. Other days I just think its better to give up.

Guess what today is.

Well let's see what the package is, shall we?

Let's see how much help it will be. The 5p off a litre of petrol didn't help much, did it?

So they are not doing this to help people?

Oh I very much doubt it.

You can't believe they are doing this to help the people of this country, can you? That their motivation is to protect those on low incomes? Surely you don't believe that GSM?

Blimey volver if by trying to save their own skin which they won’t the poorer in the U.K. are given financial help when they most need it, I am all for it.

It will not make me vote for them…

They are only doing this to get themselves out of a disgraceful situation which they want people to forget as soon as possible.
Well I for one will not because had this scandal not gone on they would be offering nothing at all.

So you would be happy to see the less well off in society suffer?

I will not forget Mr,Johnson’s behaviour but this does not mean that I am against any help given to those who are struggling, or the timing of that help.

Oh, we're ever so grateful Mr Johnson sir. And that lovely Mr Sunak.

God bless us, everyone.

*though should be *those (I am falling out with my iPad thinking it knows better ?)

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 26-May-22 09:05:05

I agree GG. As they’re due to have a break until after the Jubilee isn’t it better to announce it now rather than wait? The sooner people’s worries are alleviated, the better.
