We just have to hope that the next Tory leader has integrity, trustworthiness and the country at the heart of policy.

But looking at the potential candidates I wouldn’t hold your breathe.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 01-Jun-22 08:42:12

Utter madness.

vegansrock Wed 01-Jun-22 08:34:27

Maybe we’d have to invade those countries first….

DaisyAnne Wed 01-Jun-22 07:59:52

I don't know if it isn't more worrying than him getting desperate, Whitewave. He seems out to build an Empire he can rule over.

He is throwing things out for the ERG side of the MPs and supporters. I wonder if this is just telling them he's sticking to their plan; rather like all the nonsense about going back to things that have never disappeared.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 01-Jun-22 07:16:06

He’s getting desperate isn’t he?

Um Macron has been suggesting an "outer circle" of the EU for some time. I don't think "led by the UK" is on the agenda though. ???

TopsyIrene06 Wed 01-Jun-22 06:50:31

Yes, I heard it and my family looked at me as if I had finally lost the plot. I can't remember where or when I heard it so I had to remain silent but at least, now I know, I didn't imagine it.

I always rely on our very well informed posters on here to trash the rubbish and report the truth with very good references. I am in awe of their knowledge. Long may they continue.

The U.K. is the unfriendly one ..

Urmstongran

Maybe he’d just like to align us with the more friendly of our European neighbours.

But he threatened us with Turkey joining the EU as part of his vote leave campaign….

DaisyAnne Tue 31-May-22 23:44:49

Re my last post, I should have said a no-confidence vote that Johnson scraps through.

OakDryad Tue 31-May-22 23:41:36

Possibly MaizieD. I think Johson's immediate ambitions lie further afield aligning with Japan and becoming part of the eleven member Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade pact.

Japan is expecting Britain to persuade the United States to return to the TPP trade deal abandoned by Trump. Good luck with that while the Good Friday Agreement is in jeopardy.

Still, at least we get to import Fukushima poisoned fish as part of the deal.

I've just been watching the predictions re Johnson on Newsnight. There was disagreement about whether a no-confidence vote would come before or after the by-elections and which parties would win them.

One possible scenario wasn't suggested; I think it's possible. I think it's likely because my impression is that above everything else, Johnson will destroy what he can't have. So, if there is a no-confidence vote, followed by bad results at the by-elections, what is there to stop Johnson calling a General Election, thus denying power to those who opposed him and landing the opposition with the worst circumstances I can remember - and they are probably worse than we actually know.

Just another dead cat.

You are obviously unaware that the UK has provided Ukraine with a lot of sophisticated weaponry, training of troops and intelligence to help them fight this appalling Russian aggression and is continuing to do so. The EU, particularly Germany has sadly been somewhat lacking in this respect. The Ukrainian President thinks very highly of Mr Johnson, not so much of the leaders of the EU. Hope this answers your query.

paddyann54 Tue 31-May-22 22:51:27

Must just be you Urm Europe has always been friendly as far as I can see,but then they dont suffer fools do they?
For someone who spends a lot of time in Europe you;re very good at running them down .

paddyann54 Tue 31-May-22 22:47:41

I've said his Churchill complex has been at work for a long time,I was called all sorts of things! The man is a dangerous fool !
Just for my own information ,can anyone tell me exactly WHAT Johnston has done for Ukraine? I hear supporters on TV and radio claiming the UK has" done more than any other country" if thats the case why have we the lowest number of refugees ? The movement of vulnerable people not high on BOJO's list?

Urmstongran Tue 31-May-22 22:30:30

It isn't you going mad DaisyAnne. If true, it's the unhinged megalomaniac in 10 Downing Street who I suspect would like to see the whole of Europe at war so he can play Churchill.

Hyperbolic nonsense.

Urmstongran Tue 31-May-22 22:29:06

Maybe he’d just like to align us with the more friendly of our European neighbours.

OakDryad Tue 31-May-22 22:27:02

Apologies. Once I'd posted I could see the link looked odd but try as I may I could not find a way to copy paste here that didn't go to Error 404.

Personality issues? I am in no doubt he is a narcissistic psychopath. I'm with Bylines Jonathan Lis on this. He is hell bent on destruction just because he can. He's Putin waving a Union Flag.

MayBee70 Tue 31-May-22 22:20:11

Oh for heavens sake. And I’ve only just got over going back to Imperial measurements (which I thought was a joke). What’s happened to our space programme, new hospitals, new nuclear power station every year. What will he think of next?

DaisyAnne Tue 31-May-22 22:07:00

Thank you for clarifying OakDryad. I'm afraid I am spluttering. I have always believed he had personality "issues" but if this is what he was aiming for he tore the country in half to achieve his own personal aims. I know we knew that but this would take away any doubt, surely.

(The link isn't working but if you copy and paste it does smile)

I read that Corriere della Sera's report was written by one of its correspondents at the World Economic Forum in Davos, based on anonymous sources who are "aware of the talks" and are taking part in the high-level meeting in Switzerland.

It isn't you going mad DaisyAnne. If true, it's the unhinged megalomaniac in 10 Downing Street who I suspect would like to see the whole of Europe at war so he can play Churchill.

The report suggested, the countries in the new bloc would be united by their "diffidence towards Brussels" and criticism of Germany's excessively timid response to the Russian aggression in Ukraine.

DaisyAnne Tue 31-May-22 21:28:44

Have I finally gone mad or has this really been suggested?

The suggestion is that this will be made up of the UK, Ukraine, Poland, The Baltic States and later Turkey and would be an "alternative to the EU for countries united by distrust of Brussels and Germany's response to Russian aggression".

It appears it would be led by the UK.

Ukraine wants to join the EU. Polland is in the EU. Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania are all members of the EU. Turkey was used as a fear trigger in the argument to leave the EU on the grounds they would all come to the UK because of the EU.

This seems to have been put forward a few days ago but is more reported in Europe than here. Does anyone know anything about this?
