Boris Johnson wins confidence vote by 211 votes to 148
Sir Graham Brady, chair of the Conservative 1922 Committee, says 359 votes were cast. There were no spoilt ballots.

Confidence in Boris Johnson: 211

No confidence in Johnson: 148

That means more than 40% of Tory MPs voted against Johnson.

I also agree with Leolady73- and Hell yes we deserve better!!!

Nannan2 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:40:57

I agree with polly123- as i said- we are moving backwards- not forwards.

Nannan2 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:39:25

RichmondPark- is that for members of the publics standards?- or to determine MP's standards for how they behave in public??

polly123 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:38:30

Andrew Mitchell's comment about the party being medieval in it's management and character seemed about right to me.

Nannan2 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:36:08

Maybe they hope that if we the public have to accept lower standards in general we will accept the PM and rest of the conservative party with their own low standards as well???

We are now down to 3 Tory backbenchers in chamber for standards debate

Nannan2 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:32:53

We are not 'allowed' to have standards, according to conservative party- thats why they're doing away with the 25% new built social homes rule- and why they are forcing disabled people off legacy benefits onto UC- so they can cut their money (drastically in some cases) and then cut their living standards!

Leolady73 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:32:08

Boris Johnson is dangerous - how do we know he represents our country, and not just himself, when he lies and has no regard for the law! We deserve better!!

Nannan2 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:27:44

Please God let's not keep them in till 2024!! ?

Just 4 Tory MPs in chamber for debate on standards in public life

Nannan2 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:22:54

If they wanted to improve things they would make the rule up to 40% of the new build homes be given over to social housing- because councils aren't building much either, if at all- nowadays hardly anyone can afford to buy and when bills rise again in october no one will be buying houses (only those already loaded!) especially not the young people who can't get a foothold on the property ladder already! Like i said- moving backwards, not forwards!

Dinahmo Tue 07-Jun-22 14:21:07

Urmstongran

And Hunt?
Best way to guarantee a Tory defeat in 2024.

Let's hope!

Nannan2 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:15:39

So we're actually moving backwards then now, not forwards, on policies that were meant to improve the living standards of people on low wages and benefits- but clearly conservative party don't think these folk deserve to have a nice home to live in that they can afford- just slums then for us who can't buy one is it? ?

icanhandthemback Tue 07-Jun-22 14:11:08

I think it is a sad reflection on the Conservative party that they can't find anyone better to lead the Party. I am very disappointed in the party as a whole.

DiamondLily Tue 07-Jun-22 14:10:56

He could be having to do it all again in six months. The 1922 committee are looking at changing Tory party rules, so that a leader can be challenged every 6 months, instead of yearly..

By that time, the by election results will be known, and the enquiry as to whether he lied to Parliament will be complete.

Michael Gove is currently trying to reverse the rule that 25% of new build housing is given over to social housing so that no one on low incomes or benefits gets a chance to get a decent new house! (Only the rich can get 'dibs' who can afford to buy one) I read that the other week- no wonder he is keeping a low profile!

Granny23 Tue 07-Jun-22 14:03:16

Growstuff asked PS. Has anybody seen any building work on any of those 40 hospitals?

Well yes - today I saw in the local paper that the foundation stone was laid for a whole new wing on our regional hospital. It has been prioritised/fast tracked to deal with the backlog of surgical operations (mostly knee and hip replacements) which has arisen because of the pandemic. It will contain two wards, rehab facilities and two theaters.

OOps sorry, this is in Scotland under an SNP/Green Government and has nothing to do with Boris's promised 40 new hospitals.

RichmondPark Tue 07-Jun-22 13:58:16

"a sure sign that the PM is doing the right thing."

All evidence demonstrates that the PM is not doing the right thing and that he has spent the vast majority of his life not doing the right thing.

Nannan2 Tue 07-Jun-22 13:57:45

Why can't they have a vote by ALL the mp's in parliament?- not just conservatives? Why not ask all the parties if they have confidence in him? After all, they still have to live under his rules.I bet he'd have been ousted then.Or better still- just ask the public to vote whether we still want him, or indeed the conservatives, still running our country now that its all going to pot- time for a general election I'd say- we ALL deserve a say.

orly Tue 07-Jun-22 13:57:13

fairfraise

Also means that nearly 60% voted for him.

Correct! An even more conclusive vote than the 52% to 48% result in the Brexit referendum. No complaints from me on either vote.

Nannan2 Tue 07-Jun-22 13:44:58

I'm not convinced it was'nt fixed tbh! I doubt very much there's still 211 of them still like him!?

Happygirl79 Tue 07-Jun-22 13:40:09

This with bells on! What an awful excuse of a man he is. I honestly can't remember disliking anyone quite as much as I do him

123kitty Tue 07-Jun-22 13:30:13

I would like to know how my local conservative MP voted.

LizzieDrip Tue 07-Jun-22 13:22:29

The 40% against are in great danger of losing their very highly paid jobs - and I hope they do. So disloyal.

The 40% have voted in the way their constituents wanted them to vote. MPs in a democracy are merely representatives of the people. Why should those MPs lose their jobs? What sort of democracy do we have where an MP risks losing their job because they carry out the will of the people. Sounds more like a dictatorship to me!!! In fact, the 40% should be applauded for carrying out their constitutional duty rather than pandering to one man’s obsession with power.

NannaFirework Tue 07-Jun-22 13:21:21

I can’t get past the parties in lockdown - never mind all the good things they are trying to do/or have done…
I am disgusted in Boris and the rest of the smug lot - shame on them ALL!
I think the Tories will be defeated at the next general election as the majority of the common people will speak with their votes.
