Me too Tanith. I don't see the point of the platform thing. Also don't need to see all the local newsreaders pictures on a big screen - just the local one.

The old format still seems to be used at the weekends.

Why?

Interesting about camera angles... the other night Sophie Raworth was wearing high-waisted very wide-legged navy trousers - looked like she was wearing stilts and about 7ft tall!

AmberSpyglass Well if people's brains now want a complete mess on the screen with odd items scattered all over the place then that's sad. The newsreader and the picture screen are competing with random items like staircases. I can't see how that helps anyone. The viewer doesn't know where to look.

It may not be an entertainment programme, but it is competing with them. A more interactive, less static production is likely to keep viewers watching rather than turning over - it’s a psychological thing, if someone is staying still then there’s a sense that even if the news subject changes the experience is still the same so people don’t think they’re getting anything new, but if someone is moving around then you’re following them with your eyes and there’s more of a sense of urgency and that you might miss something if you switch over.

The way people consume media and even the way people’s brains work has changed dramatically over the past two decades - it’s not that the old format doesn’t have its merit, it’s that it just doesn’t work for modern audiences.

Did they ask us if we wanted to pay a multi million make over? Thought not, the BBC don't care about viewers or listeners only about being woke and getting the cash in. They hate Britain and the government.

I watch the news on 5. the camera angle is usually very low and I feel the cameraman is trying a bit of upskirting.

I have lots of problems with television news - but all of them not just the BBC - mostly related to prioritising the visual when it's not conveying information.

But standing up? No, not so much; there's nothing 'natural' about presenting the news sitting down. I'm not a newsreader but I hate giving presentations or lectures sitting down (or in fact even behind a lectern).

As DH pointed out last night, most of it isn't really there....

A lot of green screen.

Then we have Rita talking across the studio to Thomas in the distance!

'Hey over there, can you hear me?'

The studio is a complete mess to look at. Pillars, lighting shiny tubes, odd bits of flooring and even a staircase in the background. Then a random screen in the middle and the newsreader trying to compete with all this clutter.

The poor viewer doesn't know where to look.

One man last night hadn't received the memo. He was wearing a pair of dirty old plimsolls on the catwalk! Very distracting for viewers.

I suppose this means they will all have to ditch the pyjama bottoms and the jogging pants.

Remember the shock when Angela Rippon emerged from behind her desk and danced on the Morecambe and Wise show? That was a lovely surprise and so unexpected. Wonder what new lengths newsreaders will have to go to next to keep.our attention? Juggling? Fire eating?

I just want them to deliver the facts clearly and simply do I don't mind a screen used to illustrate the information e.g. Statistics. DH watches all the news plus listens on the radio often during the night. He talks about it all day. Result I don't want to watch any of it except some headline facts.

Even my husband commented last night on Reeta Chakrabarti getting up, sitting down, walking about, pressing the screen to update us on something.

Then the weather with Tomas can’t remember his surname. Don’t think I’ve ever seen his bottom half before. He dodged about, big sweeping gestures, and wearing what looked like jogging bottoms (but still very nice). He made it into an almost theatrical performance!

I like Huw Edwards too. Neatly behind a desk telling us the news. It's not an entertainment programme it's just, well, the news!

I like Huw Edwards and he doesn't wear 6 inch heels (not at work anyway)
