We all hope for the best, but there are very few reasons to expect it.

Colombia has a fabulously diverse population and I also hope they get a chance to change and grow.

You're welcome

Ilovecheese

I hope America does not interfere and try to destabilize the Government. It would be so interesting to see what could be achieved by a Government that puts the people of the country first, without corruption.

I hope so too

Yet again I am in full agreement M0nica

I think the chances of Columbia ^putting the people of the country first, without corruption^let alone do anything to control the drug barons are as likely as Kim Jung Il embracing capitalism.

Is he going to be able to do anything about the multi millionaire drug barons?

Venezuela is a basket case with much of its population fleeing to other countries The United Nations Refugee Agency filed the following report: www.unhcr.org/uk/venezuela-emergency.html.

If you think this country is a successful country that Columbia should be proud to be connected with - well it takes all sorts...........

Incredible news from Colombia with the election of a socialist president, who has shown the power of community organising to build a popular policy platform to heal the divisions of the past and bring about social justice.

And congratulations to the first Afro-Colombian Vice President Francia Marquez! May they be enabled to achieve what they want to do. Let's hope that America and co won't start their usual meddling.

Heartening to see Venezuala, Cuba, Nicaragua congratulate Petro. Hopefully strong bonds will be made.
