Northern Ireland Protocol

Is the United Kingdom a ‘good citizen’ in the world, honours its agreements and obeys international law.?

There is concern on all sides about the Government’s actions. Chair of the Justice Select Committee, Conservative MP Sir Bob Neill, said that the Government’s legal defence on changes to the Northern Ireland protocol was highly dubious. He also warned that the UK should be “very wary” of tarnishing its reputation for upholding the law.

If the UK can’t obey international law, how can it credibly criticise other countries which do the same?

The Northern Ireland Protocol was negotiated and signed by this Government less than 3 years ago. The reason for changing it has little to do with Northern Ireland or its people. This all about the political situation the Prime Minister finds himself in and we must not let the Prime Minister toss aside the rule of law.

We used to be known as a country who could be relied on to keep our word and we were respected for our integrity. How can any country depend on us to fulfil promises and sign contracts that we intend to keep? Johnson has caused a rot that no amount of grandstanding when abroad will abate.
