"Tory donors have privately asked if there is ‘any way’ to keep Boris Johnson as Prime Minister, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

The days after Ministers and MPs’ forced Mr Johnson into announcing his resignation, insiders reported that a kind of ‘buyers’ remorse’ was setting in among senior ranks.

One said the absence of a strong candidate to replace Mr Johnson has led to calls to find a way of keeping him as leader. ‘None of them are much good,’ the source said.

Several donors have asked if there is ‘any way’ it can be arranged for Mr Johnson to simply apologise for his mistakes and move on, but have been told this was not possible, The Mail on Sunday understands.

Another source said: ‘Donors have been saying they have buyers’ remorse. There is a feeling that we have lost this extraordinary politician. That he [Johnson] has been got at by the blob, Remainers and BBC."

My understanding is that a new leader of the Conservative party automatically becomes Prime Minister.

If I am correct Johnson can be forced out, as soon as the Conservatives get their act together and elect a new leader of the party.

We did not "vote Boris in". We voted, as we always do, for our constituency MP. We are voting for our representative in Parliament. We do not do more than that. It is the way our democracy works. The leader of the largest party - voted for by the MPs/members - becomes the Prime Minister. That is what we always do.

How is that democracy?. It is how our democracy works. The MPs decide who they want to lead them - and who they don't. Why is that not democracy? We have a party system.

Nothing will change Of course, it will and change and change again. That is not democracy; that is life.

I heard commentator saying he wanted to stay to use Chequers for his wedding anniversary bash but also because he’s hoping by some miracle the Tories will do a u turn and keep him as leader and call election. No. He isn’t doing a u turn on brexit. If he said he would overturn brexit would you be happy with that? He’s being pragmatic.

‘The people’ booed Johnson at St Paul’s and many other places in recent weeks. Listen to phone ins, look at opinion polls, the majority want him gone. In the end, senior tories recognised Johnson had to go. He was a liability to the party.
He’s a liability to the country as well.

He’s not being hounded out. He’s been found, by his own party, to be unfit for office and a danger to the country. And believe me more and more will come out about him over the next few weeks.

I so agree with you GG. I am so sorry that Boris has been hounded out and the country will worse off without him a the helm.

Obviously a few, like you, think he is a good PM but many of us have found him to be selfish and totally unacceptable from day one...

I only found it yesterday so I suppose some may have heard it. It explains a lot about the person and how he contrasts sharply with our current PM especially in areas such as motivation and purpose.

he never should have got it in the first place, but will the uk general public eventually realise how rotten the tories are? its about time the tory party was ended and replaced with a kinder form of politics, maybe dalai lama as the head? or am i dreaming?!

They have a big wedding party planned at Chequers in a couple of weeks time. I’m sure the next leader would have allowed them to still have it there. Not an excuse to cling on.

I don't feel sorry for him in the slightest but I believe that facts are facts which is something he doesn't recognise.

It's not a huge farm, I would say average for livestock.

The Mirror reports allegedly that the PM won't go before the summer because they are supposed to have a big wedding bash at Chequers sometime at the end of July. Typical.
