He can’t possibly stay as is being suggested until the autumn.

Far too much damage is being done, and surely the Tory party can’t trust him one inch!

Well it’s happened, he had to go. I personally pleased what he achieved, Brexit, Covid, his relationship with Ukraine, they think we’re mad, I think Johnson a fantastic orator and motivator but how stupid was he to lie, duck and dive, to lose his job which he loved it is just so stupid and lacking in integrity. You don’t get everything with anyone, probably some very boring but precise newcomer, who dies t lie, but who will just tread water but achieve little. So I don’t feel elated, just resigned as it was inevitable.

The Mirror reports allegedly that the PM won't go before the summer because they are supposed to have a big wedding bash at Chequers sometime at the end of July. Typical.

Just been reading that he and Carrie have big wedding at Chequers planned for June.
Sounds a feasible reason for hanging on?

They're already married are they not? And it's past June!

He can't go until there is a new leader to take over as PM. If he handed his resignation to the Queen now it would mean we had no PM.

It would mean that Raab would be PM

He and his family own an estate on Exmoor.

Well, it's a farm .....

I think Theresa May is an honourable person and would be the ideal caretaker until the new PM is appointed if she will do it. I think she would for the sake of the country

He really must go immediately. There's too much opportunity for even more damage to be done. Plus I doubt that he actually intends to go anywhere.

Another reason why he should go immediately

Please do bear in mind that, if he is allowed to stay on as caretaker, Johnson will seize on even the tiniest hint of emergency to suspend the leadership process and cling to office for longer. Let’s just hope nothing happens to Zelensky, London or the Queen.

Oh crumbs. I suppose we have to be glad that there have not been people with guns storming Parliament WWM. At least not so far.

He hasn’t gone, he’s stringing it out for as long as possible. He needs time to find a place to live, don’t suppose Carries flat will be suitable for two children.

DaisyAnne Thu 07-Jul-22 13:15:25

So this time it is the herd instinct that is to blame, never "no blame Boris".

I wonder if anyone has counted the number of lies about achievements in that speech.

Alie2Oxon Thu 07-Jul-22 13:12:13

He's gone and he hasn't gone, at the same time. Howzat?

nanna8 Thu 07-Jul-22 13:08:54

He’s gone.

Not the last we have heard of Boris.. He'll end up with a Cabinet job.. Looking after Ukraine?

Definitely not. His ego wouldn’t tolerate being second fiddle. My money is on him wanting another election asap, he won’t stand as an MP, and then he’ll be free to make money.

Blimey failing ex-ministers get £400+k severance pay!

Strewth!

Surely someone who resigns from a job shouldn't be entitled to a pay-off?
They are not being made redundant.

That is right, I think.

Unless HM steps in, asks for his resignation as Prime Minister and appoints a caretaker Prime Minister.

He's not going quietly, is he!
Barnacle Boris.

This is why he must go immediately - he is a massive security risk

I have checked the FCDO published transparency records for ministers’ meetings. Johnson did NOT register the meeting with Alexander Lebedev. He cannot have notified his officials.

Glorianny Thu 07-Jul-22 12:28:55

I do wonder what the red wall are thinking watching this. Westminster elite deciding things again? Boris was our bloke? In some ways it is exactly what they claim has always happened. The north being ignored and London deciding.

Riverwalk Thu 07-Jul-22 12:27:02

The lectern is out - wonder if he's got a surprise up his sleeve hmm

DaisyAnne Thu 07-Jul-22 12:25:35

If you read the rest of the article I highlighted, it seems to infer that a lot is in the hands of the 1922 Committee, due for re-election on Monday.

... its first business will be to decide the rules for the leadership election to replace Johnson. That could include special provision for a temporary leader, presumably Raab, but Johnson has already shown that he will try to fight until the last moment

I agree with many of the speakers on the News programmes that given enough rope he will hang us.

Alie2Oxon Thu 07-Jul-22 12:22:49

Boris being sneaky as usual. I hope some one finds a way to get him out!
