I've just looked up the Welsh for carrot. Tee hee.
Me too!
I assume it was applied to Liz Truss not Rishi?
Well am not surprised.. Are you? Feel dismayed by the Cons and the awful skullduggery that has gone on..need a glass or 2..

I would rather they had been sitting down, with a presenter asking each of them the same questions, one at a time, with a fixed time to respond and a shorter right of reply after each one. No interruptions allowed, as inaccuracies could be challenged in the right of reply.
A fact-checker could check out any statistics or historical claims, and correct both candidates when necessary.
Having them standing at lecterns talking over one another was a very poor way to conduct the 'debate' and made it more of a 'show', which it should not have been.
That's exactly what happens at the pre-election hustings I've been to. Candidates sometimes react with a facial expression, but they don't get to attack the other hopefuls.
I have never understood having to stand at lecterns either, perhaps they think it looks statesmanlike?
Think of the US candidates, they stand for a very long time arguing with each other.

I also was sickened by Truss's dismissal of her childhood; she was raised in a comfortable middle class area, her Father was a professor, her Mother a teacher and she attended a good school under a Tory administration. Her attempts to paint her upbringing as challenging are appalling and patronising, her childhood was hardly a misery of DH Lawrence proportions. I would be very hurt if I was her parents.
I think her school will feel affront too. After all they presumably encouraged her Oxford University application.
Politicians often try and either play down their roots or even make up alternative ones. This does not fool many people, especially nowadays when facts are easily checked.

Sunak looked flustered I thought and slightly out of control.
Truss didn't seem able to control his outbursts.
Neither is good enough to be the PM.
I am annoyed that while our country is in the state it's in these two are the only choice and the majority of us don't even have that choice.
I cannot believe how appalling the so called debate was last night, I am very concerned about the economic future of this country, I am very concerned that people are talking, in all seriousness about a return to Thatcher economics which was in my opinion, the start of the spiral downwards of public services and general humanity, and very concerned that there are people of voting age who are even talking about the potential of a Johnson return, or are bemoaning the loss of the great liar. Be very afraid
Initially I was irritated by Sunak talking over her. By the end I was shocked LT thinks she’s strong enough to be PM but couldn’t stop Sunak interrupting her.
Putin?!
I did think Truss looked very weak against Sunak who kept interrupting and constantly talking over her, and couldn’t help thinking how he wouldn’t get away with it with some of the LP women. Angela Rayner springs to mind.
Substitute , wrong spelling rather than substitute word
Personally, and I know this will not sit well with most of you, I say bring back Boris.
After hearing that we are to lose Boris I have always said rishi sunak for next PM, but after seeing him and Liz last night on the debate, I am now not so sure.

Aw, I missed the word --what was it?--
It was very similar to the Welsh word for 'carrot'
Maybe then it's time for some non deletable subsitute words instead, such as adopting the Welsh word for carrot instead of the deletable version. I mean, let's all behave like adults. Lol

Sorry all, just noticed this had been pointed out.
Liz Truss, and the consequences of her inadequacy, will be the gift that keeps on giving for Labour.

What I am wondering is which contender would Sir Keir Starmer like to deal with best?
I think he would prefer Rishi Starmer. I cannot see him wanting to cross swords with a woman with such relish.
Also I think that Liz Truss is more of a worry for the Labour Party, as she seems to be saying things that appeal to the red wall voters.
I do not think I was patronising at all, but if being so is deletable then by all means go ahead MaizieD.
Often on sites new posters are told they should not speak up,
I do not go along with this.
Let us not prolong this type of conversation, as to do so would really be like infant school.
Time for more political discussions.

Not sure about Johnson’s hair? It hasn’t always looked such a mess. I think it is some peculiar affectation.
I think this too, although he may have very flyaway hair which is hard to tame.I have seen a photo of him when he attended Eton School and he was a food looking boy with lovely hair, in a different style.
He does it on purpose. It's just an act, like everything else he does.

This is true Galaxy there are many words which may be shouted in the street or laughed about as insults, but forums should be and often are better than that.
I am glad that you are not bothered by the deletion Volver and accept it and realise now it should not be used as a form of insult.
Yes I am enjoying this site but the tech issues are becoming a nuisance for me, as so hard to post, and pages jump around.
I feel very tempted to report you for being patronising, Prentice. This is not an infant school (though that might be unbelievable at times) and posters lecturing other posters about their behaviour is not always appreciated.
Careful Casdon, you might offend someone. ?
Good comment LauraNorderr.

A word is used by a poster, another poster thinks the word is inappropriate, first poster justifies their use of word. Some agree, some disagree. It’s known as adult discussion. A Welsh speaker would read the word as meaning carrot and perhaps go on to discuss beetroot.
? ?
I’d say she’s more of a lemwn.

It wasn't an insult. Just an observation.
