Well am not surprised.. Are you? Feel dismayed by the Cons and the awful skullduggery that has gone on..need a glass or 2..hmm

the fact that he and ten generations of his forefathers were not born and bred in the British Isles

Obviously you missed my post

He was born in the UK
He was bred in the UK
He is British.

His parents mostly probably have British citizenship too.

If you eat out in restaurants you can’t be sure where meat is sourced. Better to stick to veggie I think.

^Although I want to keep the role of PM for an ethnic Brit, I would vote for Patel if a Remainer was the other candidate^

Jeez!!! What an appalling comment - discriminatory on so many levels. So, these are the sort of people who will choose the next PM of this country?

And if they choose Sunak every racist in the country will have a field day, won't they?

It won't matter if his politics are good, bad or indifferent, the fact that he and ten generations of his forefathers were not born and bred in the British Isles will really suit the racists They won't stop to consider his politics.

And anyone who does try to soberly criticise his politics, his Cabinet or anything else while he is PM will be yelled at for
being a racist too.

So he can't win, and the general public cannot either.

Truss has a trade deal with Australia.

I shall not be purchasing Australian meat

It will be a very small portion of the meat in the markets here. No-one has to buy it.

Not all Australian meat is produced like that and the meat imported into the UK will be subject to our regulations.

Are these the regulations that are being re regulated or removed?

I'm sure it will be labelled. ??

Easy to avoid if you don't wish to buy it.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 21-Jul-22 16:55:18

It would be better if Truss had allowed a debate on it in parliament, as undoubtedly this would have been explored.

But she has refused.

But can Rishi become Prime Minister?

Surely he cannot retain his American citizenship and be Prime Minister of Britain? Does he have Indian citizenship as well? Does anyone know where his loyalties really lie?

Is there any real reason to prefer him to Truss?

IMO neither are in any way suitable, but obviously the Parliamentary group of the Conservative Party feels both are suitable.

He was born in the UK.
Southampton Hospital.
He is British

Having permanent residency does not make him an American citizen.

But because of their regulations you cannot be sure the meat that you are eating has not been raised in abject cruelty.

I'm afraid being produced in the UK or the EU with all their regulations does not mean that you know for sure either.

Wheniwasyourage Thu 21-Jul-22 16:47:05

Anyway, with this shower in charge, how long until it becomes expedient to change our regulations? I put nothing past them.

Did they give more detail?

(I'll share your sweet and you share my salty?)

There were two commentators

One a labour supporter the other a Tory supporter. They had both been around the block, so had heard it all, but they were absolutely astounded at what they were hearing, but couldn’t say of course, because it was so bad??
They were
Luciana Berger
Ian Dale

Doodledog Thu 21-Jul-22 15:47:56

Oh, that's awful. Mr Dog is veggie, so I don't eat a lot of meat anyway, but I will seriously consider joining him in vegetarianism.

ITV morning programme.

Apparently astounding rumours doing the rounds that if correct it is going to get extremely personal and dirty!

Popcorn anyone?

I'm seeing suggestions that if she gets to be PM Truss will offer Johnson a Cabinet post...

Foreign Secretary?
?

Newly created minister for dressing up and having photo shoots post?

specki4eyes Thu 21-Jul-22 15:17:57

My no 1 Bestie and I met whilst campaigning for the Tories in 1983. Today we agreed that we will never vote Conservative again.
They had a fighting chance with the competent Ms Mordaunt...so what did they do? Kick the party into certain oblivion!
Truss couldn't even find her way out of her press briefing. She doesn't stand an earthly, and UK is going to be stuck with another law breaker/liar.

Well at least Rishi seems to like giving money away.....

.....Without the checks that are made on those poor families who are on benefits.

1. Sunak gave grants to the self employed but missed out about 3 million of them

2. The bounce back loans to businesses were made by the banks with insufficient checks on the borrowers because the loans were guaranteed by the govt.

3. The furlough scheme was deemed to be relatively successful - at an average cost of £5983 per job on furlough.

Overall the schemes looked good but there has been a massive amount of fraud:

1. SEISS grants for the self employed were based upon 3 years tax returns. However, it was possible for the fraudulent ones to inflate their income on the last tax return considered in order to obtain a higher grant. So a tax return filed by 31 January 2020 could be amended at any time before 31 January 2022. HMRC are looking at tax returns submitted before the deadline but changed at a later date.

2. It is estimated that £17 bn out of £42bn loans will not be repaid and that £4.7bn has been taken by fraudsters.

3. The estimate for furlough scheme fraud is £5.8bn

The other serious error Sunak has made is over the increased NI payments. These are directed at employees with no account being taken of either landlords or company directors. The former if they have no employment do not pay any NI at all (unless they make the voluntary contribution). The latter pa themselves a small salary from their company and take the rest of their "earnings" in
dividends. No NI on those. In my book that is seriously unfair.

out the frying pan into the fire, it is either a rich man looking out for the rich or a female as bright as a 2 watt bulb.
Either way the average working man looking for a pay rise to match the rate of inflation is scr*wed

I don’t like or want either of them. The rest of the parties aren’t any better. There aren’t any real quality politicians about in my opinion.

Keir Starmer has, in my opinion, got an amazing team of people around him. I can’t wait to see them in government. You only have to see Yvette Cooper run rings around them in committee meetings to compare the two parties. It was very clever of Keir to move Yvette from the front benches to the committees for a while ( imo). Wes Streeting, Peter Kyle, Yvette, Dan Jarvis are just a few of them. I wish Chris Leslie would come back into politics again as well. And Ed Miliband, now he’s spent a while on the back benches is showing why many of us felt he was a good choice as party leader. A bit like William Hague, he took on that position far too early. I often wonder what British politics would be like if David had become leader at the time. Alas, the party wanted to move more to the left with Ed and then, having made that mistake, then moved even further to the left. The rest, as they say, is ( political) history. imo
