Just when you think they can't get any worse. Literally taking money from the poor.

Tory leadership contender Rishi Sunak proudly told party members he had been working to divert funding from “deprived urban areas” towards more prosperous towns.

The former chancellor bragged that he had started changing public funding formulas to ensure more prosperous towns receive “the funding they deserve”.

The New Statesman magazine, which obtained video revealing Mr Sunak’s remarks, said they were made to grassroots Tories in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, on July 29.

Just been on the radio. One Tory councillor phoned in to say that it would help better off areas pay for capital expenditure.

No mention of what the deprived areas do now.

So he knew it would be popular with his party then.

I'm sure that there are massive needs in Tunbridge Wells. It's good to know that someone is thinking of them. Areas of high deprivation elsewhere will understand, surely? Or not..

I wouldn't expect anything else from a good Tory.
Remember....it's everyone for him/herself. The more they have, the more they want. They have no concept of 'enough'. Never look to those who struggle, as there is no such thing as society.

Pretty incredible. I expect that when he go up north he will say that funds have been diverted from down south. Although I think that I heard that most members are in the south so maybe not.

Now trying to backtrack by saying that towns & rural areas need help, which is true, but in his little brag he said he was diverting funds to "areas like this" ... Tunbridge Wells! grin

Sunak and Truss are both major ??

I'm loving this sh*t show!

I live in a northern former mill town. We are edge of beautiful countryside but like other similar places, our town centre is devastated. Poor employment opportunities, families where it’s three generation since regular employment was part of life. People working two jobs and needing food banks
Towns like mine were dismissed by one Tory as all those awful places beginning with B - Blackpool, Burnley, Blackburn, Bolton. Blackburn council lost forty percent of govt funding from 2011 onwArds. Kensington got an increase
I’m sure there is some poverty in Royal Tumbridge Wells but anyone visiting that area who lives in a B town will be struck by the wealth in the area. I was there a couple of months ago
Rishi Sunak - seriously, what does he know
