Have been channel hopping loads..some of the newsreaders are irritating..my low mood I suspect..but others I can listen/view for few hours...I've taken to watching the Euro news and CNN to see how they are reporting on the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the incoming King Ascension...which channels are you watching?

I am being very selective and have been enjoying the coverage today by GBN. David Starkey is wonderful, explains the history and tradition so well. New beginnings after a really rough few years

I watched it with fascination too, because I love ceremonial anything. I also love the fact that we have had an Earl Marshall of England since around the time of Henry I, and that we still have a Garter King of Arms and Heralds Persuivant. Archaic? Yes, but it roots you in the past in the same way as the monarch does. I shall now don my flak jacket and retreat behind the sofa!

I'm channel hopping regularly.

She died two days ago. This is a very important period in our history. Not everyone is sitting at home all day long watching tv so presumably the broadcasters are thinking of those who work at nights or who work during the day.

The history and pageantry this morning was interesting.

I doubt that this blanket coverage will continue until the funeral. You may recall the criticism when the Queen Mother died of the length of the coverage then so I suspect that the broadcasters will have taken that on board.

Given the current state of the nation I think it's good to remind ourselves that we can do things better than most other countries, even if it's only pageantry and national events.

A bit fed up with it now.
Think I’ll see what Judge Judy’s up to, until DD2 arrives with DHS2 and a big bag of laundry.

Bea65 Sat 10-Sept-22 11:45:33

Yes I’m getting a visual history lesson of new and old and find it most interesting.. glad the rain is holding off at the moment as presume the headwear of the guards is heavy enough and those robes!

Also the fancy dress is very good. I once shared a dressing room with the State Trumpeters. It was in Spain, I think, and we were singing for Charles and Diana. Must have been Expo whenever it was in the early 90s. It was in a cathedral so there weren’t proper dressing rooms, and we were all in the same one.

I was too Grandma and to think it had never been seen before outside of the Privy Council members until today.

We have switched between Channels - but as much as I respected the Queen, and mourn her passing, and as much as I wish Charles the very best- 10 days of this is just too much. So highlights for me from now on will be sufficient.

Nothing 'grumpy' about this either.

I was glued to the proclamation this morning. History being made before our eyes. All it lacked was a parchment scroll.

We watched Channel 4 News for two nights coverage of the Queen's death and thought the news presenters handled it well though their usual forensic skills were not in view. We don't intend to watch more as enough is enough and it drives other, important news off the programme. For many the government's response to the energy and cost of living crisis is probably at the top of the agenda.

Revilo

Sorry but i will not be watching

No need to apologise, no one has to watch if they don’t want to.

Off to the Tower immediately Revilo to be detained indefinitely at His Majesty's pleasure grin

I don't think anyone cares whether you watch it or not.

Oh dear too many ink wells for the King to deal with ✒

I was terrified that someone (Camilla)? might knock some ink over, she looked a bit nervous, bet her hand was shaking and her heart thumping.

What would you say if you spilt ink on the paperwork?

“Sorry, can we have another sheet of paper please?”

Must be hard doing a decent signature standing up, be easier sitting down.

Not watching any of it except occasional news updates. I tried watching The Capture on i-player but it's totally confusing. My DS says they are not showing any comedy programmes because the country is in mourning. Personally I think a couple of funny episodes of something would be quite nice.

MayBee70 Sat 10-Sept-22 10:53:41

Watching Sky News. Even though I feel that parliament needs dragging into the modern age I love the pomp and ceremony of all this. The fact that we’re watching history being made and are, in our small way, part of it.

Penny Mordaunt has a good speaking voice and presence - very impressive.

Bozzer must be sick at not being on top table - all that history being made and he's only on the sidelines.

The Archbishop of Canterbury seemed not to know where to sign!

I've watched very little. I dipped in and out on Thursday when it was so sadly clear that she was dying but presenters struggling to deal with sparse news didn't make for riveting TV, in fact I felt very sorry for them.

Yesterday I watched Charles' speech and most of the St Paul's service, and later, the BBC tribute programme which had so obviously been recorded earlier this year in preparation for this moment. I felt sorry for the family members who contributed who had had to put on mourning and talk about their mother in the past tense. But I suppose they were pragmatic enough to know that it had to be done.

I shall watch the Proclamation and then that's me done until the funeral. Unless some channel puts together a lovely programme about the Queen and her horses... grin

Obviously this moment has been planned for for a long time and the planners have failed to realise that we have moved on and, much as we are very sad that the Queen has died we're not going to go into deep mourning for her to the exclusion of all else. One programme a day from each channel would be quite enough, I think.

For those who are wondering about Ukraine, I've been following updates on Twitter and they seem to be pursuing a successful offensive operation towards Kharkiv. Not meeting a great deal of opposition from the Russians. Lots of lovely video clips of the Ukranian forces being greeted in liberated towns and villages. I'm so pleased for them. Long may it continue.

I agree too. I think she's very impressive and was sorry she was knocked out of the race for PM. Liz Truss gave her a role though so probably recognised her worth. She's very beautiful too which is unusual in a politician!

Boris Johnson and Gordon Brown look to be having a jolly chat together.

Nice to see.

Interesting watching the body language!. Tony Blair and Gordon Brown with their backs firmly to each other!

David Cameron and Boris were very similar from what I saw.

She would have made a good PM. Perhaps will one day.

I agree!
