I thought we might like to record and share some of the images and thoughts that have a special meaning to us.

I’ll start with this. My most favourite place in the U.K., my home county.

MawtheMerrier Mon 19-Sept-22 16:28:49

So touching - as was the sight of Emma, the Queen’s Highland pony with the Royal grooms.

PollyDolly Mon 19-Sept-22 16:26:28

Blossoming

I’ve never heard of that before Polly Dolly. Was it just a family thing?

You say your neighbour has young children so he probably needs to get the washing out. Not that anyone needs an excuse for putting washing out.

No, he lives alone, has no children and is also an ex-serviceman, so you'd think he would have some decorum.

Millie22 Mon 19-Sept-22 16:13:52

Phew ...

I can’t watch…again…

I’ll be holding my breath for a long time in a minute, lots of steps.

welbeck Mon 19-Sept-22 16:07:51

i suppose it's akin to not doing washing or hanging it out on a sunday. sabbatarian observance.
maybe polly has scottish ancestry.

rafichagran Mon 19-Sept-22 16:01:34

Not standards Pollydolly just something your family do and like another poster, I think it is odd.

MayBee70 Mon 19-Sept-22 15:49:33

Shame on you Dimbleby. Emma’s a Fell pony, not a Highland…

Aveline Mon 19-Sept-22 15:47:21

They miss her for being her. They must wonder where she is and why she's left them. Awwwww.

Urmstongran Mon 19-Sept-22 15:31:43

An image from the Field Gun competition in 1975.
The last one was held at Earls Court in 1999.

mrsjonesy Mon 19-Sept-22 15:30:20

The Choir. They sounded wonderful

Callistemon21 Mon 19-Sept-22 15:29:42

Urmstongran how interesting that your father was in the field gun competition.
I remember spending a fascinating hour or two watching them practising in Devonport.

Urmstongran Mon 19-Sept-22 15:26:39

My dad was in the Royal Navy. (I was born in Portsmouth).
I always think of him whenever there’s something where the Forces play a part. He was in that RN competition where a gun carriage is dismantled, hurled over obstacles and reassembled against the clock. So, seeing the gun carriage today made me think of my big, burly, good looking dad and I filled up.

MayBee70 Mon 19-Sept-22 15:18:04

I think I might need a stiff drink ( don’t usually drink…)

Luckygirl3 Mon 19-Sept-22 15:16:56

Oh good grief! - have you seen the steps they will have to get up at Windsor!?

Millie22 Mon 19-Sept-22 15:16:30

O no all those steps for the bearer party.

vegansrock Mon 19-Sept-22 15:16:05

My DF was a naval man so I loved all the men and women sailors pulling the gun carriage. Reminded me of him in his uniform. ?

Luckygirl3 Mon 19-Sept-22 15:06:34

Never heard the thing about hanging washing out - very odd!

Very quiet here too........although I am more than a little disappointed that my neighbour has a line of washing pegged out! and no! he does have young children either so that can't be his excuse.

Why, the weather is good for drying. I don't think you should be disappointed. It's up to him.

Actually, it has. been damp and overcast here today so really not ideal for drying.
For as long as I can remember no one in our family has ever pegged out the washing when we knew there was going to be a funeral - we have always thought it to be disrespectful to do so. But each to their own, just a question of standards.

annsixty Mon 19-Sept-22 14:37:13

I was very impressed by Baroness Scotland.
Her reading was so good, she could have been theatrically trained.
Liz Truss did well but was rather lacklustre by comparison.
I hasten to add I could not have done a 10th as well so it was good I wasn’t asked!!

Callistemon21 Mon 19-Sept-22 14:26:38

So many people lining the routes wanting to pay their respects

Apparently at George V funeral, the gun carriage went over a particularly bumpy bit and the top orb and cross fell off the crown.

I did hope everything was fastened down somehow

henetha Mon 19-Sept-22 14:21:06

A quiet day alone, just watching this historic event and heartened to see so many people out paying their respects.
