Just to keep us all up to date with what is happening.

Kwartang is refusing to publish the Economic forecast by an independent body ahead of Friday’s mini-budget.

Does that mean it is too dire?

Urmstongran Thu 22-Sept-22 20:35:13

No idea DaisyAnne but it’d be great to know it was being worked on.

Yes I realise about Norway Casdon.
Be nice if we didn’t need a top up from Qatar going forward.
Maybe fracking could fill that gap.

When do you anticipate that then UG?

Anyone who thinks there is no Russian influence in the UK is a fool. We even have a Lord of Siberia in the House of Lords thanks to B Johnson.

Oh there is plenty of Russian influence, we have evidence if such. But none for those wanting to ban fracking.

So todays news is

The government is considering lifting the ban on live animal exports.

Lifting the ban on importation of foie gras

Lifting the ban on the importation of animal furs.

Lifting the ban on the importation of hunting trophies like dead lions etc.

Apparently the bans are too “socialist”. Since when has the ban on cruelty to sentient beings become too socialist!

I think bans are extreme and also not necessarily effective. It does sound as if some are saying, "I ban because I know better and must insist you only have my choice".

I also think that banning creates illegal trade or workarounds.

Education and persuasion are the ways to change views. Some will still not agree with you, but sometimes we have to agree to disagree.

Well, good luck with that.

So by that logic we should lift the ban on fox hunting, farrowing crates, puppy farms, and so on.

YouGov Public opinion poll on fracking released today.

Meanwhile Welsh Government have confirmed no fracking for Wales.

Oh wait.

“The UK's reliance on Russian gas is far less significant, at just 3 per cent. About half of the UK's gas comes from the North Sea, and a third is sourced from Norway. Norway is on the North Sea!
The UK's gas imports are primarily natural gas, in either a liquefied or gaseous state. Natural gas in gaseous state is imported via pipeline, primarily from Norway, with small amounts from Belgium and the Netherlands.29 Jun 2022

Oh. I didn’t know the percentage for North Sea gas was so high!
Thank you Casdon I stand corrected.

Maudi Thu 22-Sept-22 12:54:05

I agree all new builds should be energy efficient and should have solar panels as standard.

DaisyAnne Thu 22-Sept-22 12:50:13

Maudi

Well I'm in favour of fracking, I'm in favour of anything that will make the UK energy secure.

As for Putin who knows anything goes. There were plenty of so called fools on here saying Brexit was funded by Putin seems strange you all believed that.

That would be fine if fracking were going to make UK energy secure. It won't.

On the other hand, making houses more energy efficient would do but the government is choosing not to do that.

Ed Dave purposely set the bar super low with regards to tremors.

We need to drill to ascertain viability.
Burying our heads in the sand and relying on gas pipelines from thousands of miles away (some from countries with dubious credentials) needs reviewing.

Capacity for energy is not going to lessen. We need to source alternative options.

98.5% of the UK’s gas supply comes from the North Sea Urmstongran. We don’t need to import any from dubious sources.

Blimey, fracking is the first policy being introduced to parliament by Truss, and there is major opposition from the Tories.

Veteran backbencher Greg Knight says:
“Is he aware the safety of the public is not a currency on which some of us choose to speculate?”

“Tory backbenchers like Mark Menzies clearly FURIOUS with breaking of pledge fracking would not happen without local consent and with Rees-Mogg ghosting them on this.”

There is mutiny in the ranks.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 22-Sept-22 12:26:31

Love it??

Apparently those of us objecting to fracking are being funded by Putin, according to Smogg.

What a fool that man is.

Urmstongran Thu 22-Sept-22 12:25:43

Quite possibly he’s bitter MaizieD and doesn’t want his old company to prosper. It happens. People are not always altruistic.

Urmstongran Thu 22-Sept-22 12:24:02

I think it’s probably for the best Britain hasn’t got a deal with America. It will aid in the NI negotiations I think.

MaizieD Thu 22-Sept-22 12:20:51

I would prefer to hear the views of the current Cuadrilla management, not the founder who is no longer involved.

Why, he founded the company, FGS. Has he immediately lost all his expertise because he's no longer involved?

Gordon Brown calls for a national campaign against the Truss policy programme that is “mercilessly dividing our country into rich and poor.” Fully agree. This is what the Labour Party conference should be used to launch.

Starmer is employing Brown over this issue, as it is his area of expertise.

Sterling has dropped to a 37 year low against the $ USA. And on Friday when they hear the mini-budget, it will drop further.
