Things King Charles might do

I was thinking that should the media be a bit slow in referring to Camilla as simply ‘The Queen’, I think he’ll start doing so. I also think he’ll do something to see him referred to as ‘ Defender of Faiths’, rather than ‘the faith’.
I was also wondering how Christmas will look without the Queen, as I think she was the one who wanted them all at Sandringham. Will the Sussexes be invited? Andrew? The Middletons? Camilla’s family? Strange how my mind works when I can’t sleep!

Saw a lovely clip on tv yesterday where a little girl was asked what she wanted King Charles to do. She thought for a couple of seconds and then answered ‘a backflip’. Really tickled me and brightened my day

I think the toothpaste rumour arose because he had a broken arm. Highly unlikely that it continues. No- one needs more than a pea sized blob of toothpate anyway!

The Crown estates were only introduced when one of the Georges had to hand them over to the government to pay his debts ! NOT 1000 years ago .
Granny23 I have no desire to see the Honours of Scotland used by Charlie boy I hope it never happens and that we vote for a republic when we gain our Independence .
Around 3% of the Scottish public turned out or watched the recent processions and a lot of those were English folk living here or people who only went because it was a historical event .Hope we have more sense than saddle ourselves with these people whose very existence is an affront to any right minded ,fair thinking Scot .Hereditary power is just WRONG on any level

Granny23 Mon 26-Sept-22 18:14:11

On a different tack entirely - I would like to see Charles crowned as King of Scots, using the Scottish regalia, in addition to being crowned with only the English (not British) Crown.

It is sometimes claimed that the Queen “surrenders” Crown Estate revenue to the nation, subsidising the monarchy through a personal financial sacrifice

The monarch does 'surrender' it to the nation. It's a convention. But the bit about people believing that it's a personal financial sacrifice is a load of bollocks. A bit of hyperbole to stir people up.

If the stuff you copy and paste on here weren't so tabloid dramatic it might be easier to take it seriously.

This point was highlighted in a House of Commons research paper, which said: “the... calculation [of the Sovereign Grant] uses the profits of the Crown Estate as a means of arriving at a figure, not as a source of income.

If the monarchy were to disappear tomorrow the Crown Estate would continue to do what it has always done for nearly one thousand years: provide income for the administration of this country.

Grany I’m being a policeman because it’s necessary - it is very wrong of you to lift words from other people and pass them off as your own, I keep reminding you, but you still keep doing it. This second sentence is Peter Tatchell’s exact words from an article in the Guardian in 2007, no doubt rehashed by republic.

I’m sure we would prefer to hear your original thoughts, not republic’s propaganda.

DS has met Camilla in a workplace and was unexpectedly impressed. She was apparently so friendly and interested that everyone liked her. Very natural and down to earth.

My husband did too and had the same reaction. He said that when she needed the toilet she was happy to use the nearest one and not the one that had been especially reserved for her. I don’t think she would worry about a more casual approach to royalty at all.

The Crown Estate is a land and property portfolio, managed on behalf of the Government, whose surplus revenue is paid annually to the Treasury.
It is sometimes claimed that the Queen “surrenders” Crown Estate revenue to the nation, subsidising the monarchy through a personal financial sacrifice In fact, as the Crown Estate itself puts it, “The property we manage is owned by the Crown but is not the private property of the monarch.” They stress on their website that “The Crown Estate [...] is not the private property of the monarch – it cannot be sold by the monarch, nor do revenues from it belong to the monarch.”11
It’s also worth noting that the Office of National Statistics classifies the Crown Estate as a public sector body and not as a privately owned business"

It was meant to be light-hearted MaizieD.

Won't try that again.

But anyway:

They can keep the houses they own of course, such as Balmoral and so on, if they want to. I don't want to impoverish them. Just thought they could give up the houses and palaces that everyone is always saying belong to us anyway.

I suggest they actually give the Jewels to the V&A and never wear them again.

Nobody needs to be Prince of that, Duke of this and Earl of something else. It doesn't mean anything.
A prince can mak a belted knight, A marquis, duke, an' a' that; But an honest man's abon his might, Gude faith, he maunna fa' that! For a' that, an' a' that, Their dignities an' a' that; The pith o' sense, an' pride o' worth, Are higher rank than a' that.

Its lovely if they all help their charities for nothing. We'll have more of that please, no private helicopters, thank you. Just the bikes.

Here's Anne in one of her uniforms, on the left. That's 70+ year old Anne who has never served in any of the forces. I'll just leave this there. Please don't try to make this about the armed forces.

I believe Anne's uniform was from one of her honorary military titles.

^Or do you think that the Crown is funded out of tax revenue (which would be wrong, anyway, as nothing is funded from tax revenue)^

It's not funded out of tax revenue so I have no idea why anyone is concerned about what it costs each of them personally. ?

I wasn't asking you. I was responding to Pippa22. I even quoted her post..

Anyway, she hasn't responded. no worry.
