Things King Charles might do

I was thinking that should the media be a bit slow in referring to Camilla as simply ‘The Queen’, I think he’ll start doing so. I also think he’ll do something to see him referred to as ‘ Defender of Faiths’, rather than ‘the faith’.
I was also wondering how Christmas will look without the Queen, as I think she was the one who wanted them all at Sandringham. Will the Sussexes be invited? Andrew? The Middletons? Camilla’s family? Strange how my mind works when I can’t sleep!

What do you think of Keir Starmer forcing people to sing the national anthem at party conference ?

I think it has nothing to do with this thread, Grany

Thank you Prentice. I did wonder if I had mistakenly committed treason. I hadn't actually suggested anything myself, but used the word 'prune' which was jumped on by some people. One wrong word can condemn you to the Tower! ?

You made a suggestion based on ignorance, Chestnut and kept on repeating it despite a number of posters telling you that you were wrong.

If you'd acknowledged that you were wrong when it was first pointed out to you nothing further would have been made of it.

It was nothing to do with the actual word you used (though it did have its funny side)

The least you can do is bring a home-cooked dinner or a decent pizza. ?????
And a hot water bottle.

I'm bringing bread and water ?

Chestnut your remarks were not contentious in any way, so that I cannot understand all the either rude or spiky comments aimed at you.
I do wonder if some posters get out of bed the wrong way and stay like that all day.
As to what King Charles may do we can only go on what he has done in the past really, his environmental worries and love of history.Of course, he may choose to downplay too much royal pomp as I think he may be more in tune with the times than the late Queen.

Only repeating what I read in the press of course but not sure Charles and Camilla would want to give up Highgrove, memories of their trysts.

I don’t think trysts has anything to do with it. Highgrove is a modest country house, not a mansion, which Charles has owned for many years - it’s effectively his actual home, because he’s got what he loves there. He’s poured his heart into the gardens, it’s all green, sustainable and designed to his wishes, and I can imagine him wanting to continue to use it as his main base as he does now.

Yes, it’s admirable how he has worked tirelessly to transform his garden. The fact he may or may not also have romantic connections to Highgrove, we will never know.

I never suggested who needed pruning, I just mentioned the various branches. So many people want the Royal Family made smaller, maybe they should suggest how this be done. I'm not bothered myself, I just mentioned the branches of the family.

Chestnut's not usually contentious.

Chestnut I think Charles and the Queen were well on the way to reducing the number of family who did receive any public money. There are few on the payroll now and others, eg Princess Anne, who does carry out a lot of duties, just get expenses and security when on duty.

Some have removed themselves from the payroll and gone overseas, others have been removed. However, there is still a demand for the services of members of the RF apart from Charles's role as Head of State.

Are you surprised?

It's always helpful if people actually know what they're talking about before they post. Or admit to their ignorance before they give their opinion.

Not surprised at all by the mobbing that goes on on this site...

Just glad that for a change it's not me who is being accused of... whatever it is...

He might do the kings speech on Christmas Day at 3 like our beloved queen did before him. But he might think it’s old fashioned lol

I quite like the pruning metaphor.

- Cutting out dead wood
- Removing spindly growth to promote airflow.
- Removing unproductive branches to allow for new growth.

Perhaps save the deadheading for the roses.

Callistemon21 Sat 24-Sept-22 15:39:02

My mother had a cousin who was descended from Edward IV
(Or one of the early Edwards).
How far does this pruning go?

The only way I can think of making the royal family smaller is to execute the perceived excess, Chestnut. They can't help their genealogy. And as they're not paid out public money why bother to mention them?

Callistemon21 Sat 24-Sept-22 15:32:58

Do you mean strip them of their titles?

Or make the family smaller? Not sure how that could be accomplished without drastic action.

MaizieD In which case, before shooting your mouth off don't you think you ought to find out who is receiving money and who isn't?
So simply mentioning the various branches of the Royal Family is 'shooting my mouth off'?? I never suggested anyone be blacklisted, removed or stop receiving money. You are very rude.

But the ones you listed don't receive public money, Chestnut so I'm not sure why they need pruning.
I'm just curious.

Yes William now owns Highgrove House as well as Dolphin House on Tresco IOS as part of the Duchy of Cornwall. Can’t see him turfing his old dad out though!

Perhaps he'll let his Dad and Step-Mum stay there sometimes.

Is William a keen gardener?

As William is now Duke of Cornwall Highgrove would be convenient for him as a country pad. More uncertain are Sandringham and Balmoral if they are going to slim down they can’t keep everything.

Why not? They are the private property of the King. I'm pretty sure that the estates will be run at a profit. No different from all the owners of the rather large properties I mentioned earlier.

There are so many posts on here that appear to just be 'let's have a pop at Charles' regardless of whether or not what they are saying is true.
