Royal children stripped of titles

No, not in the UK. A story in the Mirror online today.

The Danish Royal Family has announced that four grandchildren of Queen Margrethe will lose their prince and princess titles from January 1, 2023 - and says it is in line with "other royal houses". The move affects the children of the Queen's second son Prince Joachim - Prince Nikolai, 23, Prince Felix, 20, Prince Henrik, 13, and 10-year-old Princess Athena. Instead, they will use titles of count or countess and be referred to as their excellencies from next year.

I love the photo that accompanies the piece, they look such a happy family, smartly but not extravagantly dressed and not a uniform or medal in sight.

My policeman son has the golden and platinum jubilee medals. No doubt he'll get the coronation medal if there is one and he's a serving officer. I consider him to be important, doing an important job. He -couldn't care less isn't bothered about the medals.

Callistemon21 Thu 29-Sept-22 16:55:22

Even the 14-year old who somehow has managed to be worthy of 2 medals while still at school, just for being somebody's son?

You didn't seem to understand so posters explained to you.

BlueBelle Thu 29-Sept-22 16:55:35

Totally agree *volver it really annoys me seeing them in these uniforms and the main one who has actually served in a war zone was not allowed to wear his medals Prince Edward served a matter of months but wore a chest full of Christmas cracker medals
It’s all so untruthful that’s what makes me cross
And no I m not totally anti royal just don’t understand why they have to pretend and I d be much happier with just a king queen prince and princess the rest can look after themselves and as judge Judy would say “get a job”

Callistemon21 Thu 29-Sept-22 16:56:56

How long ........?

I don't think the story about the Royal Danish youngsters losing their titles would normally make the UK media. They are just stirring the pot because but we have the possibility that Archie and Lilibet might lose their titles. I think Charles is waiting to see what goes in Harry's book before that decision is made.

^There is also a requirement to live and to have been brought up in Sweden to become a working Royal and to remain in the Swedish Line of Succession^.

Just wondering if the Danes might decide to go the same way - it would mean she couldn't work as a royal.
I'm sure they won't.

Princess Mary isn't in the Line of Succession - it is her children that need to be brought up in Denmark

So you mean it was unfair to Prince Andrew?

Jaberwok Thu 29-Sept-22 17:10:35

Perhaps Viscount Severn was proud to be the late Queens grandson, and proud to wear his Jubilee medals. Nothing to do with the military but still managed to raise a sneer.

Available on Amazon and other reputable sites if you're interested.

Do stop calling posters or their posts silly, it's tiresome.

It's unpleasant to criticise a child.

You might want to check out that Amazon thing and who is actually entitled to have one.?

Anyway, I don't need to buy another one ?

I believe we will end up with a system whereby only those in direct line of succession with have the HRH titles.

For example the children of William and Kate are princes and princesses. However when/if they have offspring only those of George will automatically be princes and princesses.

As younger siblings Anne and Edward seem quite happy for their children not to be HRH in contrast to the fuss Andrew has made. I suspect its on the cards for Beatrice and Eugenie to lose their titles. Neither are likely to inherit the throne unless there is a wholesale massacre of the RF.

And here's the Crown Prince of Denmark

Probably another attempt to close down a Royal thread.

It wasn't even about the British royal family ?

Well Danish monarchy are moving with the tines seeing which way the wind is blowing, reading the room.

Alliance of European Republican Movements
There are currently twelve extant monarchies in Europe. AERM has member organisations in seven of these: Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

Caribbean countries now want to elect their Head of State.

Charles III should be the last monarch – it’s time Britain had an elected head of state

£345 million monarchy

The huge and poorly reported cost is thanks to systematic misuse of public funds for royal expenses, particularly on homes and travel.

If that support was on the wane at the end of the Queen’s reign, Charles is not the man to turn that around.

Unlike the scandalous MPs’ expenses abuses exposed 13 years ago, there is little chance for accountability when Charles or William spend our money on their private lifestyles.

Grany I'm assuming you have all these anti-Royal links and comments tucked away ready for posting when you get the chance. Do you just keep looking for Royal threads to sabotage? ?

As for 'reading the room' were you hiding under a bed earlier this month? The crowds, the queue, the flowers, the outpouring of love? You must have missed it all, such a shame.

Well who would have expected that? ???

Calendargirl Thu 29-Sept-22 18:45:23

Don’t think Viscount Severn would be very chuffed to be described as a ‘wee boy’ Volver.

He’s 14 after all, and old enough to take his place in a vigil for his grandmother.

Jaberwok Thu 29-Sept-22 19:05:19

My grandson is just 15, 5 months older than Viscount Severn and I know he considers himself a young man, not a wee boy.

volver Thu 29-Sept-22 19:19:53

Oh OK. I can't even use diminutive terms when discussing members of the RF because someone will be offended.

Wee man?

Does that work for you all?

Rosie51 Thu 29-Sept-22 19:29:08

Why the need for wee at all? Is he small?

People like to get together they want to be there as a moment in history granted there were monarchists there but also just commoners getting together.

Biased wall to wall reporting not any republican views of which there are now a growing number.

No. He's not a man.

M0nica Thu 29-Sept-22 19:44:17

Blossoming There are plenty of casual family photos of our Royal family, they do not live in their uniforms.

Come to that a quick google shows that the Danish Royal family can also be seen in all sorts of uniforms when the occasion demands it. - much like our Royal family.

Ilovecheese Thu 29-Sept-22 19:45:20

Titles are all a bit, well, silly aren't they?

M0nica Thu 29-Sept-22 19:46:05

Oh, and remember, neither of Princess Anne's children has a title and the Earl of Wessex's children have standard titles and are not a prince and princess either.
