Beggars belief!

He didn't make unilateral decisions.

Doodledog OTT or what!

What is OTT? My comment about Hancock?

What do you think would make up for overseeing a policy that killed off thousands of older people and then lying about it, as well as subjecting the whole population to rules that you didn't stick to yourself?

Do you really think he should keep the fee for his appearance, which he 'earned' when he should have been working for his constituents?

It's a tricky one, but in a crisis I like politicians who act quickly. Sometimes decisions have to be made almost on impulse, because hanging about and deliberating doesn't always produce the best results. With covid there was little time to carefully consider all the what iffs.
I think we saw those characteristics in the way Matt tackled the trials too.

Aveline Mon 28-Nov-22 13:46:29

If only we'd had someone who had the nerves of steel to put all the contracts through the usual procurement process as Covid raged through the country killing thousands?! I wonder how many more would have died if ministers hadn't had to make snap decisions to try to get the vital equipment in the face of competition for it? So easy for armchair critics to snipe sanctimoniously after the event.

Dinahmo Mon 28-Nov-22 13:33:53

He was a corrupt politician in more ways than one and yet people think that he came over as a nice chap and so forgive/forget all that happened before.

There's still an ongoing investigation into £269 billion contracts handed out without the proper checks and balances, whilst on his watch. And please don't reply that it was a time of national emergency. I think we all know that. But, he was still required to present the contracts to parliament within 30 days of them being issued and he didn't and he was taken to court and lost.

Good results for IACGMOOH

Aveline 👍🏻
It makes me laugh that people think MP’s should act like vicars.

Aveline Mon 28-Nov-22 12:57:09

Matt Hancock is a human being (and likely ex MP) not some sort of saint!

Doodledog Mon 28-Nov-22 12:37:38

Overall though I do feel he has his priorities wrong. He said he wanted people to see he is human. I think he needs to realise that other people are human. It's not about him. He needs to serve others and treat others as he would be treated, not in the jungle when the cameras are on- but in real life.
Excellent point, OaU.

I don't usually watch IACGMOOH, but I saw a few of this series because of the Hancock factor. He did come across as nice enough, but I don't trust the edit in these things.

I think 100% that he shouldn't have been in there, but should have been in his constituency, dealing with victims of the mess his party has made of the economy.

Even if he gave his fee (the thick end of half a million pounds!) to Dyslexia as a 'raising awareness' stunt, he would still have come out of this better off than he went in. A fortnight of doing those trials (which will be closely supervised for safety) is no payback for his total disregard for the old and vulnerable during the pandemic. If he wants to make amends he should be working (free) in a care home every weekend for the rest of his life, and giving every penny of his fee and the proceeds of his book to Age UK.

Chestnut

It was also reported in the DM but really who cares? Surely any of them will be using their support network of family, friends, fans or supporters. George will have a huge army of fans, so will Chris Moyles. Matt's supporters were gathering their forces on behalf of him, just like anyone else would.

Exactly Chesnut

GG13 This was rather more than friends and family on social media. Here's a link:

Anyone with the I’m a Celebrity app could vote five times for whoever they wanted every day, not really telling those who watch the programme anything not already known.

Why are they only highlighting Matt Hancocks support network?

Dare I say political bias on behalf of The Guardian?

Callistemon21 Mon 28-Nov-22 11:36:09

GrannyGravy13 Mon 28-Nov-22 10:16:51

I agree GrannyGravy

Now, Bear Grylls - isn't he the chap who disappears off to a 5* hotel at night instead of camping out in the wild?

Give me Ray Mears any time smile
Perhaps Matt Hancock will model himself on Ray.

I agree GG13 . Has he not already done another celebrity show? I thought it had been filmed but not yet shown. Or am I mixing him up with someone else.
I think Matt's wanting to mutate to a TV person as Ed Balls and Michael Portillo did before. However, he's obviously a very bright chap so could be snapped up by some finance firm.

Yes he has filmed a Bear Grylls one which will be screened in the New Year.

My thoughts exactly GG13. He planned to leave politics I'm sure. He doesn't seem to get on with Rishi so there is nothing for him at the moment.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 28-Nov-22 10:16:51

He shouldn’t t have been there however, he was.

He performed exceptionally well in every task and was a supportive camp mate.

Well done Matt for third place.

All those in camp had their friends and family on social media rallying support by the way.

I think he knew that his political career was over before he agreed to take part, I would like to see him step down as an MP now or at the very least not stand at the next election.

EthelMarshall49 Mon 28-Nov-22 09:53:13

Cringe

OnwardandUpward Mon 28-Nov-22 09:01:54

Yes I am so grateful that MH did not win. I didn't feel he should have been in there in the first place because he has a job and should have been doing it. Either his job is important and he's necessary, or he's paid for doing nothing and they can manage fine without him. Either way, people in his constituency expect him to be there.

Having said that, he did well at everything and was a decent sort of bloke in the camp. Overall though I do feel he has his priorities wrong. He said he wanted people to see he is human. Dinahmo Mon 28-Nov-22 08:31:55

He had a PR team lobbying for votes on TikTok and explaining to people how to do it. He didn't win, thank goodness. We'd never see the back of him if he had!

Grantanow Sun 20-Nov-22 14:01:05

Good riddance! Maybe he'll stay there.

Aveline Sat 19-Nov-22 11:59:31

Smart Alec 😑. Some people just like cheap laughs.

Dinahmo Sat 19-Nov-22 11:50:22

Adam Hills (of The Last Leg fame) has discovered that his Australian ancestors emigrated from Mildenhall which is in MH's constituency. He is planning to take the place of the MP to offer advice to any constituents who seek it. He will be setting up a table in the centre tomorrow afternoon. i expect he'll do a better job than MH!
