Elon Musk is openly stating his opinion, as most people do, why wouldn’t he. American citizens will vote according to their opinions/ perspectives influenced by how the Democrats have addressed the issues which affect their daily lives the most. I foresee a landslide victory for the Republicans.

I am always surprised that the US despite its large population manages to opt for such mediocre candidates for President. There must be a younger Republican or Democrat somewhere in the pipeline.

All wealthy people influence others.
He is no different.
If anything his motives are usually fairly clear
Unlike some

I don’t like Joe Biden, never have and maybe he is why some people turn to the Republicans? Donald Trump is a nutjob ,they need to get a credible alternative.

Getting seven million shows, doesn't mean that people will act on what he says.

I look at various tweets at times that come from all kind of bizarre people, doesn't mean that I am a follower.

Someone posted a link to a tweet by the man who runs the oil protesters. I read it and then passed it on in sheer horror to those near to me. I hope no one would suggest that this meant that I would act on any opinions or advice he offered, quite the contrary.

Whether Musk influences votes depends on how many Americans have minds of their own. I exclude Trump supporters from this as they clearly don't. God help us all with climate change if Trump gets back into power.

There was a TV prog. last night on all this. A senior Republican (IIRC governor? or similar) of Georgia, has a recording of a call made to him by Trump right after that ‘stolen’ election, basically asking him to ‘find’ him an extra 11,000 odd votes, so that he could win Georgia after all.

The senior Republican refused.
With evidence like this, how can Trump ever be allowed to run for President again?

Of course, I suppose the real redneck Trump supporters will maintain that such evidence is faked.
I find it seriously scary.

I think few will take much notice of his endorsement.

His tweet got several million views, MOnica.

Musk has been involved with quite high profile projects which will have got a significant amount of publicity. Self driving cars, space travel. I don't think that he's as under the radar as you think...

There are alot of very rich people in the USA, cometo that there are plenty in the UK, but however influential this make make them in dealing with government, nost of them have very little traction with most people who often haven't heard of them.

Elon Musk is very rich, but he has made his money away from social media, silicone valley and the other areas most likely to give a rich person a lot of publicity.

I think few will take much notice of his endorsement.

I doubt they care what the owner of Twitter thinks.

He's very rich. That appears to be a highly influential position to be in.

And he's calling for people to vote Republican because it's not right that one party should be dominant...

He has an interesting view of democracy...

I know it's a serious topic but your "bonkers" comment made me laugh out loud MayBee70. 😄

Elon must be doing something right
His fortune is vast
Celebrities are always telling people how to vote.
Lots of people will be voting Republican, with or without Elon's backing.

M0nica Mon 07-Nov-22 21:08:49

He is entitled to his opinion. Celebrities, especially in the USA, often endorse candidates. Whether it has any effect is doubtful.

Elon Musk is a very odd man and does little to endear himself to others, so I doubt anyone much will take any notice of him.

To be fair most of the people in the past who have had control of social media sites have been pretty dodgy, it's nothing new.

Just that, really. No words. Terrifies me. So few people with so much power. And most of them are bonkers.
