And Fox News. My very racist, Trump supporting cousin told us that the BBC was massively biased, and that to get the truth, Fox News was the only reliable source.

70% of the stuff on X was found to be misinformation yet Musk’s supporters on X say they only get their news from X because it is the only platform that tells the truth. It is very concerning. Musk actually paid people $100 to vote and had them sign something supporting free speech and guns. Allegedly he said one person would be selected every day to receive $1 million. I have to verify this with my friend in America for accuracy.

I think Musk just uses X as a world-wide propaganda machine now, rather than a cash cow.

Which might look like penny pinching, but as his declared aim, should Trump appoint him to the post he wants, is to abolish several federal (is that the right term for the departments above state level?), such as Education, and make huge cuts to the federal bureaucracy. So perhaps it was a trial run...

Cutting state bureaucracy has been a tory wet dream for a long time, one that they implemented in the name of 'austerity'. We live with the results and it's not good. But our cuts were nothing like what Musk apparently envisages. If he gets his way US citizens might find that cutting bureaucracy and 'red tape', though populist, makes life quite uncomfortable for them.

I wonder if he develops his own projects on a shoe string?

I think, even if advertisers withdraw from X, Musk won’t care - he’s so unimaginably wealthy it would have little impact on him.

To think that Musk has the president’s ear is indeed scary. He is not elected yet we must assume has some sway now with the political future of the US and indeed the rest of the world. Tbh if he is using X as a platform that should now be seen as a conflict of interests and in the name of a healthy democracy he should either give it up or give up his position with Trump.

I am always surprised that the US despite its large population manages to opt for such mediocre candidates for President. There must be a younger Republican or Democrat somewhere in the pipeline.

Musk has made an absolute fortune out of this election. I wonder if he’ll be passing some of it on to the poorer people in America who he persuaded to vote Republican? I very much doubt it.

But why would the ordinary person take their advice? What is good for very famous very rich folk is not necessarily in the interest of the ordinary person.

There’s an interesting article in the Atlantic today about Musk, Trump and Kanye West and what links them. The theory is that resentment is now a political force and that all three resent that they have never been accorded the respect they feel they are due. Putin is named as a non-American who has the same attitude.

The US really needs younger candidates next time. Someone like JFK who can galvanise the nation , who's an idealist with common sense advised by the best people. They have a lot of domestic stuff to sort.

Elon Musk, like other successful business people, "celebrities" and others in the public eye will attempt to convert others to their way of thinking (just like the person down the pub who will talk about his/her favourite political party). What any reasonably intelligent person would do is to read about the various candidates and decide for themselves which one to vote for.

As far as the American mid-term elections are concerned I think people are concerned that Biden appears to be showing signs of confusion - I think he should resign, although I don't have much confidence in Kamala Harris. Unless the Democrats can find a candidate who inspires confidence I'm afraid USA may find Trump back in power.

That Panorama programme last night about voters in today's US Mid Term elections was terrifying. Basically, no matter the evidence, some people will still maintain that Trump won, and believe that if he ends up in court/jail then it is all a Democrat conspiracy. Scary times which will affect all of us with his closeness to Putin, and his mate Netanyahu getting back in. I wish they would hurry up and get Trump and his freeloading disgusting children into court and convicted.
