Election time again and no decent candidates

In my state it is Election Day on Saturday. None of the candidates are people you would want to elect and it is hard to decide. Easier to decide which one you don’t want than one you do. Politics seem to be becoming increasingly unattractive as a career with a result that we are getting lower and lower quality candidates. It seems to be the same worldwide and I don’t know what the answer is. We have to vote here, it is compulsory unless you want to pay a fine.

I couldn’t agree more, nanna8. It saddens me to see the calibre of many of our politicians in the UK, at both local and national level and across the parties. Many seem to have gone into politics without any real belief in making the world better for others but more for personal gain. In the past, politicians were assumed to be people of integrity but now that quality is increasingly rare.

You are so right. No one from the major parties that will form a government inspires me. I was lucky in this election nanna8 as we have an excellent Independent candidate standing. She is very community orientated and would be a great asset. She will do very well and give the sitting member a big shake up. Whether it is enough to unseat him remains to be seen.

I also follow a new party - Companion and Pets Party - that will challenge the Animal Justice Party which would like people to think they will protect animals, instead they will gradually ban the sale of animals thus prevent pet ownership or therapy animals or any other form of animal ownership.
