After all they dont EVER have a good word to say about us ...and that includes their unionist "SCOTS" who it seems are delighted to tell us that we cant do anything right

Answers on a postage stamp ...or a postcard if you can find a true reason

did make me chuckle for a bit.

This is one of the best threads I've ever read on here. 🤣. I think it would be so much better if all news and political threads took the turn this one has! I am teetotal but even I fancy a Baileys now and I used to love an Irish Coffee until I stopped taking sugar in my coffee. Apparently the cream only floats if there is sugar in the coffee.

I can't bear coffee; that's why I'm sticking with the Romans. It's also because I was brought up in one of the oldest Roman towns in Britain and I now live nearish to Hadrian's wall. I can't escape them...

And Bath is my favourite city... (just thought I'd throw in a new line of thought) My BiL thinks that Edinburgh is the most beautiful city in Britain, but I hold out for Bath... (and prefer Glasgow to Edinburgh)

Gin is my tipple really.

Do you mean chip chips or crisps, JaneJudge?

Well, I never knew that!

At least one person didn't know it used to be called Caledonia.
I knew that.
And we used to sing The Skye Boat Song at my primary school (in England).
There are Caledonian Societies in England and all around the world.

There are places with Scottish names all around the world too! All those intrepid Scottish Imperialists making their mark on the world.

This is not getting at anyone, honestly. I sometimes get surprised by how much people don't know about Scotland. No criticism intended, but it does explain what sometimes people get the wrong idea about us!

Caledonia's been everything I've ever had

(Dougie Maclean)

What's wrong with Caledonia, volver?

There's a Caledonian Sleeper train, isn't there? (Which is on my bucket list to take.. if it still runs)

What is it that people don't know about Scotland?

Eh?

There's nothing wrong with Caledonia. confused

It was an observation.

What is it that people don't know about Scotland? How long have you got? At least one person didn't know it used to be called Caledonia. That's interesting to me. Means that things that we might think are common knowledge, aren't. Nobody's fault, that's just the way it is.

That's right Fanny but you need to dip the spoon in first so it's warm and then have the tip just touching the surface so the cream settles on the top. Only double cream will do, not whipped of course.

kittylester Sun 27-Nov-22 19:59:21

I haven't actually seen ours but I feel a bit weird driving down that lane.

Anyone think that those who see Roman soldiers are pulling our plonkers? I like the idea of seeing them tho.
A friend in Somerset says there is a ghost road nearby where dogs won’t walk or horses.Hmmm.

You have to do it over the back of a spoon don’t you? Not that I’ve ever made a decent fist of it

does the liqueur have to be hot for the liquids to stay separate? or am I confusing it with an Irish coffee? I used to work in a pub and i remember you add to add brown sugar and the coffee had to be particularly hot when the liquor was added so the cream would stay separate on top. They were in quite tall glasses on silver little trays and were a nightmare to carry across a busy restaurant

Oh gosh yes! In my student/waitresses days I dreaded getting an order for those drinks. We used to call them "floaters". And giggle childishly. 😃
