After all they dont EVER have a good word to say about us ...and that includes their unionist "SCOTS" who it seems are delighted to tell us that we cant do anything right

Answers on a postage stamp ...or a postcard if you can find a true reason

A lone Centurian, come on, surely between us we can knit warm socks and get a hearty casserole together - poor lad, his mum will be worrying

^We really need a Roman legion^

I have it on good authority that there is a lone Centurian on one of the lanes just outside our village. He is, apparently, looking for the nearby Roman Road. Actually, I'm a bit concerned about him as the lane is flooded, so I wonder if he could be persuaded to move north to help with wall building.

Someone needs to translate the road signs into Latin for him.

Poor man.

I don’t necessarily see them like that. Just that someone feels strongly about an issue ?

My reaction. Done it as newbie when felt passionately, I didn't realise there was a whole hidden etti-quet.

I know that there are some who wade through the floor (or did, before it was excavated) at York Minster and there were a number who used to march across the causeway between Mersea Island and the mainland in Essex.

I bet we could collect a whole legion quite easily grin

I went to Vindolanda at Easter a number of years ago. The 'Roman soldier re-enactors were out in force in their kilts for the visitors. It was snowing....

Callistemon The Argy?
There is no way that I’m funny enough to be fit to Brasso the hand pumps in that esteemed establishment.

Lemongrove got on my pips (geddit?) many a time, but she wasn’t half witty.

I hope that she visits us this Christmas 🥂

‘Dehumanise other posters ‘. Come on Violet, surely you can’t distort a few jokey comments into dehumanising someone. Volver - do you feel de-humanised? I do hope not and it seems unlikely given the humour and robust comments you contribute.

I like to know more about people too

We are more than words on a screen and far more than our opinions

It's an awful shame when people either want to dehumanise other posters by telling them it's not OK to be share theor daily lives or use personal things they share against them

Ilovecheese Sun 27-Nov-22 17:46:08

I have only just now read this thread. I think I am one of the people that Volver means who don't really see Scotland as a foreign country, but I suppose Volver is right, it is more left wing than England and for that I envy and admire the Scottish people. I must admit also that I see Ian Blackford as a very good opposition politician.
As a p.s. I rather like hearing about bits of people's daily lives, trips to Tesco etc. It makes people seem more real, not just internet voices, if you see what I mean.
I don't want Scotland to leave us, I like the word "United" and the feeling that we are United.

Cheers, JaneJudge!
Sorry, no crisps though.

Is paddyann coming back at all? With or without shouty capitals? hmm

Oh dear, I hope she hasn't been frightened away.

Callistemon21 Sun 27-Nov-22 17:41:39

I remember visiting Hardknott Roman Fort in the Lake District - by golly, it must have felt cold up there for those soldiers from warmer climes in their kilts!
A bit of wall building would get the blood circulating.

Glorianny

I've asked before but if Scotland does get independence please can we have the border moved down to Hadrian's Wall again? It shifted about quite a bit in the past and I'd rather have the Edinburgh lot in charge of where I live than the lot in Westminster.

The problem is we're not training enough apprentices now, Glorianny, in particular stonemasons.

It could take 20 years to build another wall.

We really need a Roman legion...

They made them build walls when they were bored with not having anyone to fight... grin

(And to keep warm in northern England..)

You mean the Scottish Independence movement?

Now, that is quite some claim!

😂😂😇

Guinness is nice with Tia Maria in it.
Do you think that we should have a dedicated booze thread?

You could re-open the Argy 🙂

(But don't ask me to scrub it out.)

*Do you see how much butter costs? Its diabolical!!*

Sorry to derail but I have to agree with this, country life is almost £5.00!

😲

Just wondering if our garden is big enough for a dairy cow.

This thread seems to be veering off course.

same as I am after having a pre dinner G&T, I recommend it. Can't be bothered with deliberately provocative posts, so I'm out. Fancy a G&T Callistemon21? I am just opening a fresh bottle of tonic and I don't want it to go flat.

I'll join you HPQ. This thread is a bit bonkers... grin

And I've just spent a frustrating hour trying to order some history books at 30% discount from the Yale University Press (which turned out to be Wiley''s) website... 😒

(since this is social media and we are allowed to tell people what we've been doing if we want to...)

Oh, thank you HousePlantQueen and MaizieD

May I have a very dry sherry please (Tio Pepe)? I'm just an old-fashioned girl. Thank you

Oh, and any tips on how to make a poinsettia survive please?
