BBC News - Buckingham Palace aide resigns over remarks to black charity boss
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-63810468

Well at least the Palace took this incident seriously and didn't fob off Ms Fulani's complaint.

Aveline Thu 01-Dec-22 17:39:52

Dressing in a version of African dress along with braids and shells and adopting an African name etc then complaining about being asked where she's from is pretty ridiculous too.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 01-Dec-22 17:38:54

Best we all stick to discussing the weather.

GagaJo Thu 01-Dec-22 17:38:37

All of the apologists on here will be glad to know you have Nigel Farage on your side.

I have to say, anytime I'm joined in an opinion by Farage, I will know it's time for change.

GagaJo Thu 01-Dec-22 17:33:34

Because it is a racist trope to ask where someone is from. It's part of the standard racist playbook, along with
'I'm not a racist but...',
'Some of my best friends are black...',
'Strong black woman...',
'Playing the race card...'.

See attached list. Ironically, 'Where are you from' is right at the top.

I’m trying to keep out of this as it’s turned into a regular shark tank, but would like to bring up the following point.

Asking Ms. Fulani where she was from was fine. Refusing to accept the answer given and carrying on to the point of rudeness was not.

I should follow your example Blossoming.

But I have learnt a lot from this thread.

I have learnt that there is still a significant amount of people who will excuse anything from the upper classes and will assume that anyone who calls out anything remotely related to Royalty is sticking their head above the parapet. They can expect to be insulted, marginalised and scapegoated. And ridiculed. Let's not forget ridiculed.

JenniferEccles I too am at a loss to see why asking someone where their family is from is racist. Perhaps intrusive, perhaps Susan Hussey persisted for too long, but is Ngozi Fulani ashamed of her origins? My FiL had a broad Irish accent and, although born in England, was often asked what part of Ireland he came from, and he would tell people his family roots were in Dublin. I don't know the personalities of Ms Fulani, or Mrs Hussey, but this whole matter seems to be an overpublicised incident that could have been dealt with far more quietly. The woman has now lost her job.

Not so must her job but her reputation of 60 years work.

NF could so easily have said that her grandparents were from wherever….why was she so vague about her ancestry. She should have been proud of it and why was she dressed the way she was if she wasn’t very proud of her background. I don’t know why she choose to go to BP if she dislikes the RF so much and if she believes them to be racist. All very fishy.

I could not have put it better.
As I said. MMs fingerprints all over it.

This is the equivalent to rape apologists.

B*ll*x!!

Several GN members are excusing racism. Swear about it all you like.

If you excuse discrimination, you are complicit.

If William and Catherine were booed-I haven’t seen or read anything about it except here, does no one see the sheer hypocrisy from a country who are themselves racist against blacks and Native Americans?

It's funny how we can all look at a situation and come to completely different conclusions.
My take on it is Ngosi went into this situation with the intention of provoking a situation she could exploit for media attention. Looking at her Twitter account, it is clear she has an already established view of the RF, with tweets that express admiration for Megan and accuse King Charles and Camilla of domestic violence against Megan in 2021.
Looking at the transcript of the conversation, Ngosi seemed to be deliberately vague about her ancestry, claiming she didn't know citing lack of records. This is nonsense given that she has a BA in African Studies from SOAS and has given herself the name Fulani, one of the 3 main tribes in Africa.
She seemed to be deliberately forcing Lady Susan to ask further questions regarding her heritage so she could then frame the interaction as an " interrogation" when all I see is an elderly lady who was genuinely interested in this woman's heritage.
It all smacks of a set up to me.

So she changed her name to an African one and rejected her birth name.Interesting.
With all the new info coming out I’m changing my view a bit now.Wearing an African get up and sporting an African name while proclaiming how British she is.Cake and eating it spring to mind.

The more I hear the more dubious it becomes

A background article
www.theguardian.com/society/2020/sep/22/ngozi-fulani-black-women-domestic-violence-police

Susan Hussey is 83 widow of Marmaduke Hussey, a lot of fuss over a bad choice of words by a very aged lady doing voluntary work.

Voluntary work!

A whole pod of sharks!

That seems odd in the extreme if so.

It sound like Falusi was a “agent provocateur” why else would she be wired and a immediately shout racism.

William and Katherine are having to endure another lecture on colonialism and slavery, isn’t it time we moved on. Is this going to happen on every overseas tour, if it was me I would probably leave public life altogether, regardless of the privileges they have.

They were also booed by the audience. Easy to see where public opinion, in the USA at least, is going.

I thought Boston was a poor choice the Royal Family are not likely to be popular because of the large Irish population who have recent well founded grievances against the UK.
About 200 yrs more recent than colonialism.
